Has there been a change in how the points are assigned for a reservation?

I have has reservations which show they are locked after modifying to a 7 month booking. However if you actually try and swap out points (to replace current UY with banked points) it seems to work despite showing the padlock.

Okay, I was able to get the padlock by walking. Full breakdown:

On Feb 15:
  • Booked a room for Sep 14-17
    • After: no padlock
  • Modified it to be Sep 15-18
    • After: no padlock
  • Modified it again, with no real change
    • After: no padlock
On Feb 16:
  • Checked for padlock before making any modification, no padlock
  • Walked the room to be Sep 16-19
    • After: Padlock
Room has no availability issues.

I don't have any banked or borrowed points to test banking/borrowed priority.

Interesting. So the contract is locked once a reservation has been walked?

Seems like it.

I've also just tested starting a new reservation within 7 months and making 4 modifications of the dates, all 'back', and no padlock.

I was able to walk it one day without issue. But the next time I went to modify it, the contract was locked. Today I went in to modify the guests, and there wasn't an issue. The "review ?" screen showed me which contract & how many points would be used. Later I went back in to modify so I could drop the first date which I no longer need. The contract was locked. The weird thing is there is a message at the bottom of the screen telling me I can bank points from 2024 to complete the reservation. I don't have any 2024 points. I guess I'll have to contact member services to drop that extra day. I'm concerned that something might happen if I try to push it through on my own.

The banking option is just there, its there for everyone and every time you make or modify a reservation.

If you don't need to bank points just disregard it.

For the padlock, does it matter if it's there or not? you can always contact MS to swap or reallocate points. You have nothing to worry about making the the modification online yourself.

The padlock only serves a purpose for 11 months reservations, which this is not so MS will help you.

Did more testing.

On Feb 16:
  • Made a new reservation for Sep 16-19 and did not modify it at all yesterday. Went to walk it this morning to 17-20 and no padlock before walking. After walking, padlock!
  • Made a new reservation for Sep 16-23 (7 nights) and did not modify it at all yesterday. Went to add a night to make an 8-night reservation from Sep 16-24. No padlock before adding the night. No padlock after adding the night either.

Seems more and more like they're targeting walking (though it's not clear it's intentional if MS doesn't know...). Might be as simple as checking:
Code:
Original booking date + 7m
vs.
Code:
Stay start date

Although that wouldn’t prevent walking… would it? Just means that once walked you can’t swap out the original points used to other points without calling MS? Have you tried swapping in other points?

I can’t seem to duplicate any locking so far. Made a few moved arojnd and they stayed unlocked.

Weird!

Walked it today and no lock.
To confirm, the start date of the stay you originally booked yesterday, Feb 17, is now Sep 18, and you don't see a lock after moving it?

That is correct! It’s my SSR contract so as you said, no concern with availability.

The plot thickens!

I used AUL points to book at CCV. Where are you using your SSR points?

I used them at SSR. But let me try to use them at a non home resort instead.

Reactions: ehh
To add, I made a one night trip last week for June 4th…SSR with VGF points. It also is not locked when I went to move it.

So far, the only locked contracts I am seeing is on my 11 month bookings.

Are any of you using direct points vs resale points? Maybe that makes a difference too 🤷‍♂️
