Has there been a change in how the points are assigned for a reservation?

I just went in to modify a reservation for next September. This membership has 2 contracts, Sept UY. When I made the reservation, I used all of the 2025 points under one contract, and then borrowed the remaining points from the 2026 UY on that contract. I modified it yesterday with no problem. The reservation was the same amount of points. Now today I wanted to drop a day, but it was showing that contract locked, and wanting to force me to use the other contract. I went back in and tried moving the reservation one day ahead, using the same amount of points, to see what would happen. The same thing. I'm wanting to save the points on the other contract for an 11 month reservation. I don't want to use any of them on this Sept reservation.

Has anyone else ever had this happen?

Did you book your September reservation before 7 months out (within your home resort booking period)? If so, that might be why.

I did it 7 months to the day at a different resort. The next day I walked it forward one day. No problems. Now today I wanted to drop that first day. When the "locked" button showed up, I went all the way out, and came back in to see if it would let me modify it to 7 months out from today for a 7 night stay.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, but if you used home resort booking priority from one of the 2 contracts to secure the reservation before 7 months & are now trying to modify that stay & substitute points from the other contract which has a different home resort, the system won’t let you do that because that would circumvent home resort priority.
If you are right at 7 months & neither of your contracts were used to book during home resort priority, then my guess would be that by dropping the first day you landed outside the 7 month window and/or you were trying to book more than 7 months + 7 nights 🤷‍♀️. A final possibility is that by trying to walk your reservation forward a day you walked into a more expensive night (Fri. or Sat.) or into a more expensive season (DLH moves from a less expensive point season to a more expensive one on 9/16) & the locked contract doesn’t have enough points to cover the modification.

I've had this happen when booking home resort during the 11-7 month window and then switching to a different resort at 7 months. For whatever reason the home contract is locked. Member Services can reallocate for you -- chat or call.

Because the reservation you are modifying was initially a home resort booking, the contract stays locked, even when you modify to a non home resort.

MS can help.

I just checked a reservation I recently made within the 7m window with entirely non-home points and I'm seeing the same lock.

I agree with your conclusion that something changed.

I also checked an older, 2nd reservation I made within the 7m window and I'm not seeing the lock. Further supporting 'something changed'.

Getting ready to call member services soon, but wanted to clarify. I made a reservation at a non-home resort right at 7 months, for 7 nights. I have 2 contracts on this membership. Neither was for where I was reserving. I only wanted to use the points from one contract, because I was planning to use the other contract for an 11 month reservation down the road. This is Sept UY, and I was making the reservation for a Sept stay. I used all of our allotted 2025 pts, and borrowed the remaining from 2026. Again, using only the one contract. The next day, I walked it by one day to get the dates I wanted. No problems. Today when I went in to drop off the first night, which I really don't need, that's when I saw the contract locked. I then went out, and back in to see if it would let me do 7 months from today, and for 7 days out. Again, that contract was locked. It was also asking me if I wanted to bank my 2024 points, and how many to bank, but I don't have any 2024 points left.

Hmmm, I can't reproduce with a new 7m reservation. I'll walk it tomorrow and see if walking activates the lock.

(this room is not inventory limited, I'm not preventing anyone from getting this rooms)

Maybe that has something to do with it?

Plus, you're not preventing anyone from getting the room, unless you keep it forever.

I’ve made a few reservations within the 7 month window this week that have put locks on the contracts. I’m guessing this is an unintended side effect of something else they “fixed” recently. Because Disney IT.

Were you able to do modifications even though you had a locked contract? I'm afraid to try it in case it would miss up my points in the 2nd contract.

It shouldn't affect new 7 month reservations, the ones that I've seen only have the "issue" is if you've made an 11 month reservation and modified it to a different resort at or within 7 months.

And yet @The_MT, the OP, and I have reservations made entirely within the 7m window that are locked.

"Should" vs. reality. Something changed.

I did it 7 months to the day at a different resort.
This tells me the OP modified an 11 month reservation. I admit I didn't read your entire posts so didn't know you experienced it for a new 7 month booking that you then tried to modify.

if you want to ensure it only takes the points you want it to, i'd recommend that you modify through member services either via chat or phone. i don't trust Disney IT one bit. it doesn't always work the way it's supposed to.

The lock on the contract just means that is the one that has to be used. It sounds like that is what you wanted. Dropping a day will still keep it locked on that contract as long as the points were available which they would have been.
A couple years ago I got a lock on a 7 month reservation for an unknown reason. MS agreed that I made it at the 7 mark window but there the lock stayed.
