Has the 'Magic" been lost since purchasing?

When we bought back in 2000, my wife and I decided that because of the ages of our kids, any upcoming trips would include them, so we might as well go someplace that they will enjoy. Now each time that we go back, we compare how our kids are growing up with a certain ride or attraction in the park. Plus, we've had the opportunity to "share the magic" with our families by taking them along each year. We always find something new or different or something that we have never done. No regrets here!!! :earboy2:

No regrets here either!
We enjoy all the time down at WDW, and even when "that person cuts in front of you", or "no Welcome homes", we don't sweat the small stuff...
It is a vacation, and certain things will go wrong ANYWHERE you stay...

Yes, a light bulb goes out, or something does not work, but one call, and they usually fix what ever problem there is.

The magic is all in WHAT YOU MAKE IT!!!!!!!!! JMHO......

Our connection with WDW grows stronger each year... After 5 years of DVC trips twice/yr, it's truly become our second home.

As others have mentioned, our vacations have evolved over time. We're no longer rushed to do everything, and we're spending more time at the resort, taking advantage of its ammenities. And we're now starting to settle into 2BR units, which give us a more "homey" feel.

We're also nearing a x-roads with our kids... They're getting a little tired of some of "old" rides, and want more action. They're nearing the age were we may be able to turn'em loose at a park, if not next year, then '06. When that happens, it's a whole new ball-game!

Can anyone share their personal experiences???

I found this old thread when I was searching (thank you for finally adding a search function, btw!!!), and here is my answer.

It was the MOST magical when they included park hoppers for free during the stay. Now that tickets cost a fortune it is stressful to have to decide every time if we are going to spend that much to go to the parks for a day (although this year's annual pass discount might make a bit of a difference). After you have thoroughly done all the parks it isn't the same as when everything was new.

Staying at our home resort of OKW would be fine; I don't need it to be "new," but in subsequent years we have had things happen like the smoking painters on our non-smoking balcony, bugs coming out of the jacuzzi jets, once the back of the curtains I opened being black with bugs, smoke-infused non-smoking rooms, and several stays in the handicapped rooms, which I do NOT like, because they were "completely booked and had NO other options"!

Before anyone jumps on my back for saying so, remember this was a question of was it equal to the beginning "magic," and the true answer is no. That does not mean we don't still love it. For us it is the best of all possible timeshares.

Oh, my gosh!!! Yuck!

We are definately in the "Magic keeps growing" group. I've been going to WDW since 1976. I never tire of what is offered at the parks. We honeymooned at WDW back in 1990 and it was then that I saw my DH had caught the "bug". Became members in early 2000 and it was the best thing we've ever done.

We've stayed at our Boardwalk and Vero homes, VWL, BCV, and OKW. We've gone on a number of cruises. We've treated family to a visit both with and without us. DVC works for us.

Looking forward to my Boardwalk view one bedroom this June!:D

(good thing I'm the boss! - Tee,hee), so I didn't read all of the posts on this subject, but I "gotta" tell 'ya I was one of the most hesitant soon to be DVC members when we decided to join . . . was it almost two years ago . . . and I haven't a SINGLE REGRET! Just said to hubby the other day that I have none and we're considering adding onto our 250 points. We, too, haven't used it for anything but Disney properties and don't see doing so in the foreseable future. We're starting a tradition of going to Vero Beach in the summer and always make a trek to the world during the winter months when it's less crowded. I highly doubt you'll get tired of the Magic however you find it . . . be it at the World or at HH or VB. I am sooooooo glad we joined and like so many others, wish we'd done it sooner!

First off I believe the magic starts from being there with your loved ones and sharing the time with them.As my son gets older we do different things and as long as we try doing something new each time it always seems fresh and magical. We have certain traditions that we always have to do when we arrive ,but most of all we truly enjoy sharing the vacation together.

Yes, the Magic is still there. I have purchased my membership in late 1995, and have never regretted my decision. I am seriously considering adding more points to my membership as my family has grown and I need more space during our annual visits home.

My friends wonder how I could go back to WDW year after year. I point out to them that my annual trips to WDW are no different than their annual trips to Cape Cod or any other vacation resort. In fact I think my trips "home" are better. With the wide variety of activities and restaurants, each of my annual trips is different. And like I have seen mentioned in numerous posts, I don't feel a need to do every single ride, see every show, and go to do everything Disney has to offer in one trip. That in itself is one of the best benefits about being a DVC member.

My husband is always worrying that the magic will fade. We've been to Disneyland and D-World 4 times in the last 5 years, and I can't see any fade at all! Our trip to D-World as DVC owners was so much more relaxed and enjoyable, it added to the magic. To appease my hubby - we only bought in at 100 points. Enough for a small vacation every year, or we can take time off and take a larger one every other year( we go off-season). This year we can't go anytime soon, so we are selling our points, and I was able to sell them within a few days. It helps offset the purchase price, and we can use the money for other things on the years we can't go. Anyway - if you aren't sure, you could take a baby bite of DVC, and see what happens. Just keep in mind that with resales, baby bites can add up in closing fees! We have no plans to add on - keeping it at 100 keeps me from burning out the other half on Disney! Good luck!

Just in case you need anymore "No way" votes (I didn't read all the posts), here's another one! It really is more magical. For several reasons - slower pace, much better accommodations (to me & DH), etc etc etc. There are so many possibilities that it keeps things fresh for us. One time stay at OKW, another at VWL, and so on.

Hope you'll be joining us soon.

I intend to preserve the magic associated with WDW while using my DVC membership as my tool of preservation. I'll explain further. First, I'm not going to burn myself out by going to WDW property every single year. I'll probably go there every other year. Other times, I'll use the points to go to Hilton Head or Vero Beach. There will be other instances where I will rent the points to someone else to help pay for a trip to another vacation destination. Another thing that I like about the DVC option is that I can do a WDW vacation in a different way than I might otherwise have done it. Since I know I will be back in the not-too-distant future, I don't have to do every single thing while I'm there. I'm more relaxed. My wife and daughter and I might go this time, and next time we might have my parents or a couple of friends join us for the trip. I like that the DVC gives me the option to do a myriad of things that all allow me to preserve the magic of which you speak.

Hi Everyone

We are on the fence right now about purchasing and one huge concern I have is that we find our visits to Disney absolutely magical each time we have been.

I really am wondering if that "Magic" will be lost if we visit every single year?????

Can anyone share their personal experiences???

If you expect the same buzz every time you visit I guarantee you will be disappointed. It ain't gonna happen. Hilton Head is a great alternative. Or bank/borrow points and only go every couple of years.

This year we're going to Hilton Head and banking points. Next year I plan to blow them on a whopping trip to WDW.

haiving spent 15 yrs of my life in DVC and and seeing my life evolve and my family evolve with DVC, the magic is still great but it is more intense for all of us when the kids are between 4-8, yrs old...........at that age they really get into the whole scene...........but my kids are older and their still is alot of magic for all of us

We have taken about 8 trips to Disney over the past 20 years. It took us five years to decide to buy into the vacation club from the first time we took a DVC tour. We stayed in BWV and were amazed at the accommodations. We had always stayed at a moderately priced resort. The fact that we could walk to EPCOT and MGM was an additional perk. In 2003 we bought 170 points, enough to go to a 2BR,2BA every two years for a week, standard view at BWV with a few extra points to spare. As a teacher, I can only take the family during higher point times. Our kids are 19 and 20 and still get excited about the trips. It's almost better since they are old enough now to do their own thing, while my wife and I do ours. They can take friends. I figured that after the initial investment, our points get us a great vacation home every other year for the same as we pay for a condo in Myrtle Beach (our other favorite vacation place). If we chose to go every third year, 510 points, banking and borrowing, we could stay longer, get a second studio, anything. There is so much flexibility. At worst, if we don't use our points, we can rent them, give them to friends or family, or anything really. I can't imagine losing the "magic" though. The more you go, the better it becomes. There isn't the urgency to do everything. I could see us eventually skipping the parks for a day or two. My only regret is not taking the plunge sooner. As of now, I don't plan to add any more points. As of now, every two years seems sufficient. But we are not tied into only every two years. Hope this helps a bit with your thinking.

We have been members at OKW since 1995, and have had many wonderful vacations. Many times bringing other family members with us. My wife has said that it is great to enjoy the family in a setting other than sitting around the dining room table. That comment really rings true, I think that it was great for my kids to have memories of being at WDW with the cousins.

My kids are older now (14 & 18), so I don't need to go to kid friendly places. So we trade, I live in NJ, so it is always a thrill to stay in NYC at the Plaza, something that I would never pay for.

I am working on a trade to San Francisco for the summer. And I have used it in williamsburg VA, very nice. The great thing is all the flexibility that DVC offers.

You may want to consider buying 150 points and then going every other year, That is what my cousin did and seems to work out for her. When I bought the minium purchase was 230 points. But we got the free passes.

Good luck with your decision.

Absolutely - no way. One very magical thing about Disney is that we get to go back again and again, and we get to share it with not only our children, but our friends/family. The opportunity is always there to make plans to take others along, and for our children to take along their friends, which isn't so easy to do in a hotel room (only sleeps 4 & kids are bigger now). Another thing that really keeps the magic alive is that everytime we go, it's a different vacation, because there is so much to do you can never do it all in one trip. Visiting other resorts to see different atmosphere's, trying new and different restaurants each time, seeing shows we haven't previously seen, going to places we were never at (Cirque Du Soliel, House of Blues, Pleasure Island, Wide World of Sports, Hoop Dee Doo Review, etc) just to mention a few. Another great thing is catching that show or display that you wouldn't haven't taken the time for in one trip, such as the fountain "dancing" in Epcot, or the living statues in Italy. Relaxing on our balcony in the evening and listening to the bustling of the boardwalk is MAGICAL every single time - everytime we think of going somewhere different for our vacation, we just can't and don't want to be anyother place than our DVC home resort (BWV). Good luck with your decision, and don't worry, the magic doesn't end....

but I agree completely with the following.

So far, about 10 visits to WDW, 6 with DVC the magic remains the same. Will it change I have no way of knowing but even if it were to change it's nice to know that I can sell it (right now) and get back almost exactly what I put in to it. That's not bad for a time share type of arrangement.
