Has the 'Magic" been lost since purchasing?

We have not made our first trip home yet. However, we love WDW and have been 4 times since 1999. Never had the desire to own because we thought we could do better just getting packages when we wanted to go. DH and I took our first trip in September without our kids. First vacation alone since honeymoon at the Poly in 1986. Decided to tour SRR since we were resort hopping anyway. The kids would have gone crazy. That all being said, There is no greater feeling than knowing that you own a piece of the Magic and you always have your next trip within reach. Can't wait for our first trip home!

Hi Everyone

We are on the fence right now about purchasing and one huge concern I have is that we find our visits to Disney absolutely magical each time we have been.

I really am wondering if that "Magic" will be lost if we visit every single year?????

Can anyone share their personal experiences???

For us, it has been even more magical!
The thought that keeps often goes through my mind is one that many DVCrs say, "Why didn't we buy sooner?"

Here's another vote for the "magic" increasing.

Since DW and I joined in 2002, we have taken 3 trips with DVC........... one to DVC HH, one to VB, then finally to VWL. I'll have to admit that, since the VWL trip was our first to WDW with our 2 DS's, we were in the "have to see, have to do" everything mode. Our next trip to WDW, planned for June/July 2006, will be different. We plan on getting park passes for half of our stay (the rest, we'll play in the pool, go shopping, or maybe visit some of the other "attractions" in Orlando).

I think that is what makes DVC ownership so exciting ....... that you can, if you desire, RELAX.

I agree with the more magic group. We have enjoyed our trips so much more after joining DVC. The accomodations at the resorts are so relaxing. Each different resort provides a different experience with each trip. We are all so much more relaxed after our vacation. And the best part is we know at the end of every vacation, we will be back without a doubt. And we usually have another trip already reserved. We also have more than doubled our initial point purchase to keep up with our demand for Disney vacations. Good luck with your decision.

Magic gone? Never.
As peole have said, you no longer go through the parks at break neck pace. In fact, on our last trip to WDW, my husband was feeling a little under the weather. As we sat on the balcony of our third floor room at SSR looking out at Downtwon Disney, we talked about how disappointing this would be if this was a once in a life time trip. But since we visit WDW four weeks a year, we just took it easy and relaxed.

DVC was as close as I could get to living there.

I think the magic "dipped" for me by the end of my first year of ownership. Then I figured out that the objective wasn't to do four times as many trips of the same thing. Instead look for what you haven't done. Commando style park hopping leaves a number of things unviewed. There are tons of things I haven't seen and once I decided to slow down a bit (and start skipping parks) the magic came back.

However I'll remember that in the future and will skip DWorld for extended periods. Happily this is a Disney year and I'm looking forward to it.

But it's easy for me (3 hour flight), cheap airfare, usually pretty good weather, and I like swimming and Florida.

So we're going in about 10 hours (tomorrow morning), and hubby still isn't sure if he wants to go.

I need to find someone else to join me on my trips, because I like Disney a lot.

Magic still there, but we enjoy it differently. We go often, probably three to four times per year. The frequency lets us enjoy a much more relaxed pace and to explore aspects of WDW we would not have done before.

I was worried about this exact thing before we bought. Luckilly our first trip as DVC owners was last April and it was in a Grand Villa in Old Key West. Talk about Magical! When we entered the Magic Kingdom we were still all excited, the same way we feel every time we go there. My fears were over after that week, and as others have pointed out, I should have bought years ago when we first saw the presentation at Old Key West. That must have been at least 10 years ago, but hindsight is 20/20. I knew back then we would return every year to Disney, but now we are so glad we bought into DVC. We bought a resale at the Villas Wilderness Lodge. My kids are 19 and 15 and have been going every year since they are born, and still love it just as much.

We were one of the first people to buy in Oct 1991 and for us it gets better all the time. Believe it or not it gets better as our children get older!! I do think you have to be a real Disney fan. It's the same thing as going to a place by the ocean or mountains. I know tons of people who own a home or a timeshare and have gone for years to the same place. For us Disney is our second home. I can never see that changing. I will add though, that we are very fortunate to be able to take other vacations during the year to other destinations. If all we could do was Disney every year I think my family would have to reevaluate. Just chiming in with another opinion and thoughts.

The magic has gotten better for our family. I was hesitant to buy in because we enjoyed concierge a couple times and I thought, "How magical can doing your own laundry be?" Well, it's very magical when you have 2 kids and lots of messy or wet clothes. The rooms are just as magical and sometimes actually nicer at the DVC resorts than concierge because they are bigger and I could have my kids take a nap in the bedroom while DH and I relaxed in the other room. Or we could put them down for the night and then enjoy a wonderful dinner in our own room. Now that is magical. I warmed towels, cleaned the baby's clothes, washed everything at WDW so I didn't have a load of dirty clothes to wash when I got home, and instead of going to the concierge floor to grab a coffee, I just made the coffee myself. Maybe someday we'll like to go to concierge again, but when your kids are young, it's just too stressful to make sure they are on their best behavior for the other guests. I'd actually enjoy my coffee much more on my own balcony where my kids can be kids and I can relax. Last January was our first trip home (and I've been visiting WDW for 33 yrs now) and it was the most magical It's ever been for me. My DH feels the same way. We take it slower as others have mentioned and I'm not in a frenzy to see everything because I'll be back in a year. And young children can't handle the commando-style visits anyway, so this gives their Mom the incentive to slow down and enjoy the finer details of WDW, where the magic is subtle, yet exists. Within a month of our return to PA, I am planning the next trip. I am in the "Wish I bought sooner" crowd. If you can afford it, and it won't put a strain on your family's finances, then I would suggest buying in. Losing the magic at WDW after buying into DVC is like saying you won't love your first child as much when you have a 2nd. Most of us would say that's impossible and that there is enough love to go around. And the same can be said of WDW's magic.

The magic left me with the many changes to the parks that have been made in the last few years. The only magic left is the weather in january which is just great.

Just curious why you remain a Member since you seem to get so little enjoyment out it.

As for me I agree with all the posters who said it gets better. Since you are able to go more frequently vacations are more relaxing and there is time to slow down and "smell the roses" and to try new things. I am more likely to take midday breaks and hang at the resort--or take a whole day off of touring and relax at the resort. Plus I love the feeling of owing part of WDW!

We took our 1st family trip in May and I was exhausted by the end. Did we see everything, cause who knows when we will come back. Stopped in the last day to see SSR. Wow this would be nice to own at Disney and have a vacation every year. Wheels were spinning. I am a complusive buyer DH is NOT. He will not buy anything without researching it further and justifying the purchase in his own mind. THANK GOODNESS! Because I thought SSR was nice and it had the WOW but ..... came home read up here on the boards and bought resale (saved mucho money) and are happy owners at BWV. Going in February for a week at OKW and planning Christmas 2005 at BWV. DH would like to to go in August as well amazingly I am the one who is hesitant about that trip.

I can not see loosing the magic! I get excited just think about the next trip and what to do that we have not done. Take it slow and VACATION!!!

I had the same concerns. It seems like with any major purchase, sometimes the chase and its novelty can cloud the main issues on your decision making process. We have no regrets. It’s actually one of the few fun purchases after looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Most other fun purchases like motorcycles, boats, cars, etc.. age quickly and keep you eyeing the next model. I guess DVC has similar effect with add-ons, but the whole family is involved and together.

DVC seems to keep you in a perpetual mode of vacation planning. The 11 month window gives you 30 days to start planning for your next vacation. DVC also opens up the possibility to invite friends and family. We usually invite guests every other trip.

We own at BWV & VWL. My favorite resort is which ever resort were in. Every resort has a unique theme and it’s great just to enjoy what they have to offer.

I agree it gets better with Time,every visit we have seems to have something of its own to make it special.I have watched my son grow up there. We make great memories that always come back to us on every visit.Every visit we try to include something that we never did before and because you been there before you have the time to do it.

For us the magic is still strong. We enjoy WDW as a family and have taken several adult trips there as well. We love it.

Actually I'm (sort of) with Pa@okw95 and JimC. The parks "magic" has slowley deteriorated , as they continue to build more and more thrill rides at the expense of "traditional" ones. So there's less and less for me to do in the parks. Now, we just enjoy the favorites that still exist, meaning a couple of hours (tops) in each park.
But that leaves us plenty of time for relaxing at the pools, shopping, miniature golf, a movie or two, full breakfasts and dinners at the wonderful resort restaurants, and then a drink at one of the fine lounges.
And the magic of arriving at OKW each trip is still there!!!
Bottom line-I'm glad I made the DVC purchase in 1992!!!
