Has someone ever ruined your birthday or Christmas?

Yes
Yes
and yes

I’m not getting into it because it’ll just make me crabby 😐

We’ll my family forgot it twice while growing up…12 and 17. 12 my mom remembered after I was at school, came to school, pulled me from class to apologize, and then took me shopping after school and the family went out to dinner. 17, my parents were out of town so the day passed without notice. There were gifts when they returned.

I met DH just before my 18th. He is incredibly thoughtful plus his day is two days before mine so my birthday has generally been over celebrated (in my opinion since I’m generally low key and my history of not much fuss growing up left me with low expectations) for our now 42 years together.

My birthday is 9/11. Every time I tell someone my birthday they just go “ohhh.’

I’m an elementary school teacher. At my school, students passwords are their 8 digit birthdays.

.At the start of the first year of that universal password decision several years ago, I had a student having difficulty logging in. I went and looked over his shoulder with my roster in hand. I said, “Oh you put in the wrong birthdate. Your birthday is 9/11.” He said, “no that’s a sad day so my mom changed it.” I had to explain that he could certainly celebrate on any day he chose but for “official” purposes, his birthdate was 9/11.

My friend Danny committed suicide on my 30th. We lived next door to each other. I went to dinner with my Mom and sister, and we came around the corner laughing at something one of us had said, and there were police cars up and down the street and cops going in and out of the house. We ran up to see what had happened, to see if we could help. There wasn't any tape or anything at that time, so I tried to get into his house to see him because I thought maybe he'd been robbed. A cop stopped me and took us aside and told us he'd killed himself with a shotgun up in his bathroom. I had talked to him just that morning and he seemed fine. He wished me a happy birthday and told me he was going to take me to a Flyers game soon if he could get tickets from his job. It was so normal.
So sorry for your loss
