Has someone done a cost comparison for DDE vs DxDP?

Has anyone made a spreadsheet to do a cost comparison? Thought I'd ask before making my own! ;)

Thanks!

I've made such a spreadsheet. And, in our case, the given five full days and two travel days, and given our normal eating habits (for example, no desserts were included for most meals), the costs for DW and I were as follows:

Everything paid OOP: $433
Deluxe DDP: $414
DDP: $404
DDE: $384

But it'll all depend on how many TS meals you eat, how many days you'll be using the DDE before it expires (remember to include the cost of the DDE in your calculations), whether you drink alcohol, and other factors.

Good luck!

I did do one after the first time on the ddp. Unfortunately, I can't find it to pm you. Our savings like Ransom's were only a few bucks (I want to say $97) so we never went back. My family tours a little different so the ddp doesn't really do any thing for me.
1) We rarely get appes so that was useless for us.
2) We do order alcoholic beverages, so we still had to pay for that.
3) some days we just didn't want to do a TS and some days we would do 2 TS. On the ddp plan, if we weren't really hungry we would force ourselves to eat simply because God forbid we waste TS credits. So it actually took the enjoyment out of eating.
4) I turned into some type of evil clock watcher, yelling at my family to "hurry it up" because we had to make an adr. Once again, God-forbid we waste a TS credit

Now we just use the dde card, $97 dollars just wasn't worth it.

stupid question....

can I use the the DDE on top of the DDP? Like for alcohol or extra meals for my YDS?

Yes, we used both of them in April and October. However, when we used them our Alcohol was subject to an Auto Gratuity because of the 18% included in the DDP last year.

Flipping that logic around for this year, it's possible that using the DDE and the auto gratuity for your alcohol may cause them to put an auto gratuity on your food.

not a spreadsheet, but i did do a comparative cost analysis.
based on what & where we've eaten in the past, DDP saves us an average of $20-25 (per person, per night) over OOP ~ 2 adults over 7 nights = more than $280 saved over OOP.

DDE would save us an average of $10 per person, per night over OOP. 2 adults, for 7 nights is $140 saved, less cost of the DDE (over 2 trips ~ $32 & change each trip w/AP) = less than $108 saved over OOP.

DDP will save us more than $172 over the DDE. also, very important to us is the "no looking at prices" mindset we have while at WDW, & the ease of use with the DDP. we tend to relax during the day (not much park time) & go to EPCOT for dinner & illuminations.
also note that when we drink, it is mostly at places that don't accept DDE, so alcohol did not factor into our numbers.

so for us, DDP is a clear winner :thumbsup2

We are going to Disney for 7 nights in March. 5 Adults, 1 Child and 1 Infant.

We are dining at LeCellier, Beaches & Cream, Tony's, Jiko and Crystal Palace for TS

We are dining at Pinocchio's Village Haus, Backlot Express, Wolfgang Puck Express, Flame Tree BBQ, Earl of Sandwich, and Artists Point for our CS.

DDP Costs our family $1,406.58 (including tip would be $1,535.57)
OOP Cost with DDE for our family $875.13 (excluding tip - with tip $1,004.12)

I went through the menus and looked at what we wanted to eat at each restaurant, and didn't think about having the plan or not. Just what we'd order if we walked in and got what we wanted, not worrying about maximizing the plan.

I think that every family needs to look at the menus for themselves to see what works best for them.

I didn't use a spreadsheet. I made my ADRs and added up the probable cost for each one. We saved roughly $500 on the DxDP and around $235 with the DDE.

Tricia and LSchrow: how did you figure your tips?

I figured what we would order at the restaurant and added up the food bill. I multiplied that by .18 for 18% and added that to the total.

(I removed my DDE Discount by multiplying the food bill by .20 for 20%

Food Bill
+ Tax (multiply food bill by .065 for 6.5%)
+ Tip
-DDE Discount

I also realized that I did my spreadsheet before I realized that it's actually:

Food Bill
-DDE Discount
+ Tax (Tax is only figured on the discounted food bill)
+ Tip (Tip is however still figured on the total food bill, not the discounted amount)

So my numbers are slightly off, but it's in the DDE's favor so I am not too worried about it. (I never mind saving more money :rotfl:)
