Has it been raining at WDW as much as it is at my home?

When we went a few weeks ago it rained only at night. I can handle that, but we're going again in two weeks and I hope it hasn't become like it has at my home - rain and dark clouds all day long!

Anyone weather reports?

Central Florida Summer Thunderstorms are caused by the East Coast Seabreeze meeting the West Coast Seabreeze. Because of this Phenomanon storms usually begin to form around 4pm. Generally you can set your watch to these storms. Anytime between 3pm and 6pm they begin and they are usually done and gone between 6pm (depending on when they started) and 9pm. Because it is hard to forcast exactlly where the two seabreezes will collide most of the time they cast a 40-60 percent chance of rain, sometimes you get it sometimes you don't. The Florida afternoon thunderstorms are not caused by national weather patterns like other states so it is harder to predict exactlly who is going to get the brunt of them, but they come and go fairly quickly in most cases.

What would Central Florida be without these afternoon thunderstorms?? They are unavoidable but you can easily plan around them. Just know that when the sky starts to darken that you have a few minutes to decide where to hang out for the next hour or so - find a long attraction or take a sit down break and have a bite to eat.

Libertybelle and Mouseclubmom-

It sounds like you know what you're talking about and I'm glad! We leave in nine days and the weather reports so far are AWFUL! I'm just going to try and come to terms with the fact that this is one of the things I cannot control. DS and I are o.k. with running around in the rain, I'm just hopeful they don't close down any rides...:(

We just got home on Monday, and I had been dreading the weather too. But I was so pleasantly surprised. Several days we had no rain at all, and the other days we always had a storm in the evening, but it would clear up in about an hour. Even in the rain everone kept doing what they had been doing. Nothing stopped at all. The only thing I will add is that it was HOT HOT HOT!!!!! Have a great time!!!!

Even though I know that forecasting Central Florida's weather is something of a crapshoot, the forecast on www.accuweather.com doesn't show any rain from the 7th to the 17th and www.weather.com has the usual "scattered thunderstorms." Whether they call for them not, always expect them, due to LibertyBelle's excellent explanation. All day rain events are rare.

Ever think of a career in meteorology :D , LibertyBelle?

I can't take all the credit for that one... I have been living in Central Florida for 9 years (and moved here from Tampa which has the same problem, lived there from 1982-1995). Florida weather is weird. It is currently thundering at my house (about 20 minutes from Disney) but it is sunny out :) We have not gotten rain at my house the past three days but Disney got hit pretty good... It is strange too because there are times when Epcot gets hit hard and MK doesn't even get a drop of rain. Crazy Florida weather :)

A little rain won't hurt anyone....just remember that Florida is the LIGHTNING CAPITAL of the country. Lightning is the one thing you don't want to take a chance with!
