I have never seen so many complaints as I have seen lately here on the Dis about coffee at DW. Personally, as long as its hot and fresh, I'll drink anything. But I do enjoy a nice cup of Starbucks every now and then. Anyway, I'm wondering, with all these complaints, has anyone said anything to Disney and what has been their response about possible changes? Before you mention their contract with Nescafe, I am fully aware of this. But I'm wondering if they have any upcoming plans for changes.

I don't think they have every commented on their coffee because It's not really coffee. I'm not exactly sure what it is but I know it's nasty

I drink it because it's there and really love coffee. However, the above poster is correct, it does not really qualify as coffee. I enjoy going to Epcot and visiting the coffee booths near the UK and Mission Space (might be one near Philly as well). I would skip coffee in the morning and load up there on lattes (larges are small). They are made in front of you with real espresso. Can't be that.

It's been the life of me trying to figure out what nescafe actually is. I hate that most of the places that have real coffee aren't open in the morning. They have different stuff at Seashore Sweets at BW (and of course they don't open until like one:confused3 ). Anyway, one day when my DH got a cup there he was talking to the clerk about that he was happy to actually find something other than nescafe. The guy was saying that they all know it's gross and that disney gets tons of complaints, but they aren't changing anything until the contract expires (he figured it would be a while). I think they get a lot of perks from nestle and they want to keep sort of a friendly relationship with them (they must make a lot of food for them, (anyone remember the wonderball from a few years ago?).

What I don't understand is why disney can't also have some other coffee in the majority of their restaurants. They could still keep their contract with nestle, and charge the $2 or whatever for the nescafe, and just have a better option for $5 or so.

The only comment they could make is:

"Yes, we know it sucks."

And since that isn't very Disney-like, they'd never be able to say it.

Anyway - at WDW I drink tea.

That's exactly what I do!!!!

I hate Disney coffee. I can't skip my morning coffee. I'd rather not make it in the room but Disney leaves me no choice. I bring my own from home. Seems like it might pay for Disney to accomodate picky coffee drinkers.

NesCafe (as used at WDW) is a liquid concentrate used primarily for large food service operations (like WDW) to cut down on cost and to have a consistent product in every location. I know many will say consistently bad, but when you have an operation as vast as the operation at WDW it is better to have a product which is the same everywhere it is served. I have been to many food service trade shows where different companies offer liquid coffee concentrates for this kind of operation, and NesCafe is about the middle of the road for taste (yes, there are others that taste worse :scared1:). The ones with better flavor cost more per cup and are offered by smaller companies that may not be able to cover the volume WDW needs. Another reason NesCafe probably rules the WDW coffee arena is the nice little sponsorship deal Nestle has over in EPCOT.......the Land Pavilion is exclusively "presented" by Nestle, the manufacturer of NesCafe. As long as the sponsorship dollars keep rolling in, the NesCafe will keep being pumped out.

Sorry, OT, but I couldn't resist:
Scarletfire: I love your screen name! :hippie:

great responses, thanks everyone for your thoughts. I do wonder tho, have they given anyone an inkling whether anything will change once this "contract" is up. And is anyone out there in the know about how long the contract is anyway?? If there is any Disney Diser out there, please come into this thread anonymously and give us some idea, we would truly appreciate it.

FYI, NesCafe also does large volume instant coffee service, but with the large service at WDW I would say the liquid concentrate in the way they go.

My DH, who loves his coffee, can't even drink what they have in the room. I can't get going without coffee, so I walk over to the Pepper Market every morning and get a cappucino (sorry if I butchered the spelling of that). It's not Starbucks, but it is definitely better than what is in the room.

I just take my own coffee to the resort, along with my own coffeemaker and water to make it with. Gotta have that morning coffee, and yes, Disney coffee is so bad!!! So is the water!!

I am bringing my own coffee... have it in the suitcase now :surfweb:

You would think a coffee shop would make a deal with WDW to open up a joint at a few of the resorts ... Can you imagine having DD coffee right out in the lobby?!?! They would make a killing!

It seems there would be big money in serving good coffee at the resorts.
If they can let Rainforest in why can't they let in DD or Starbucks or ANYTHING that serves decent coffee :rotfl:

Because those companies (Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks) are not sufficiently financed enough to sponsor an entire pavilion the way Nestle does. It always comes down to money.......the average resort guest (for the most part) will drink whatever coffee they offer for their early morning pick-me-up and then if they are serious about coffee they will later spend $5 for a gourmet coffee at one of the not-so-conveniently located coffee stands in the parks or resorts.

I am a coffee lover – and a coffee snob. At home I use Starbucks or a Trader Joe's blend I love (I think it's called "5 country espresso"). I really, really like good coffee. Having said that, I get up every morning at Disney, wander over to my resort's CS, and fill my refillable mug with the coffee they serve. Then I stroll leisurely back to my room, marvel at the fact that I am in DISNEY WORLD, take in all the lush landscaping, say hello to a few bright green lizards, think about what the day will bring, notice the little touches at my resort I hadn't noticed the day before, smile at the little kids excitedly heading out to a park, and I am filled with an overwhelming peace and gratitude. That's a damn good cup of coffee.

Good point! Not like I like to see the so many of the private corps show up inside of Disney (don't want to ruin the magic), but they do already sell McDonald's fries. Perhaps sell the coffee in a similar fashion they do the fries. It isn't over the top McDonalds. They do have sponsors throughout the parks. I have hesitations about this though, because I wonder where it would end.

On another note, the kiosks that I spoke of do serve real lattes, so it's strange that they wouldn't catch on that people will pay more money for good coffee and provide a few more offerings.:confused3 I understand that it is difficult to make this for mass quantities in the food courts, etc. but I would imagine they could make a killing by opening up a few more of these locations through out the parks.

I wouldn't count on Starbucks coming in - they're over at Universal.

We usually buy a lattes in Epcot. For some strange reason, I do like the coffee at Cape May Buffet. I know it's Nescafe, but it is acceptable. I have to wonder if they do something different to it there.
