Has Disney Declared War on Theming?

What really bothers me about the move to an all white blob of a bed in the room, is that it doesn't have to be like this. It looks HORRIBLE. Very incomplete.

The runner is something that can be washed after each guests' stay; it's very small and made of mostly strong polyester, so it will be able to withstand thousands of washings. Now, everyone pays the price, again, for people stealing what doesn't belong to them. Charge the guest who stole the item. Some have said that Disney doesn't want to do this...maybe they feel they will be considered "mean" to do so. :sad2:

I'm a business owner, and I understand the bottom line (re: more washing costs), but honestly Disney....these rooms do NOT looked pulled together anymore. The washings wouldn't be super costly, especially since dozens and dozens of runners can be loaded into those huge machines for each cycle .

Very sad, in my opinion.
Now I'm sort of wishing I had taken one home with me on a prior trip. So I could bring it back and use it when we're there.

Better nab one of those $65 Paradise Pier beach ball pillows while I still can! They do look like a booger to pack though. ;)

Is this the room you are both referring to?
The room that I remember was mostly a leaf green color, and had teapot decor and Alice touches, beautiful pillows, etc. The room in the picture above, at least to me, looks very appropriate for the resort theme. I wouldn't expect a busy room at, say, Beach Club. Again, wouldn't fit the bill.

I know its tin foil hat of me, but maybe now that they can uncharge for themes (pirates, princesses) they don't feel a need to be too thematic in "normal" rooms?

It wasn't the laundering. It was 100% the theft of them.

It was decided that they did not want to accuse their guests of stealing with no real way of proving it. So they eliminated the problem. Bad decision IMHO, but it is theirs to make.

View attachment 251752 I think I figured out what bothers me the most about the new stark bedding. It's that it's all tucked in which makes it look like someone forgot to finish making it and there's only a top sheet on the bed, no blanket or spread or duvet. The similarly all white scheme at Hampton inn looks like a duvet because it's not tucked in. Looks more finished and cozy to me compared with the sheet look at the Disney rooms.

Maybe it's all in my head! But it was driving me nuts because I love the clean looking all white look usually but the Disney rooms recently just looked unfinished and in comparing the photos I think that's the difference, at least to me!
I think that you're right. The Hampton room still needs a bit of color IMO but it does seem more complete and classy to me.

I just thought I'd add, while it does look stark and unfinished in these photos, as many have noticed once you "move in" the room gets cozier and more friendly looking just due to your personal items.

We just returned from the contemporary and I asked for extra blankets which got folded at the end of the bed plus my kids stuffed animals which were always placed cutely on the bed the room looked very welcoming and warmer after we brought our stuff in. So while I agree I'd prefer some color or a real duvet that gets washed, it's not the end of the world and your room will look much nicer once you're in it :)

We don't travel with stuffed animals (past that stage). At Disney prices I shouldn't have to add my own theming.

Very true, I don't disagree!

I was just trying to comfort anyone who was seriously stressing over this. Even without the kids stuff, just adding the blanket made it seem more finished to me.

I agree.

All the resort room doors are always locked, they automatically lock when you shut them. And your "key" has all of your personal information on it.

So if some dastardly thief is somehow gaining illicit access to your locked room I don't think it's to steal a decorative pillow and a bed runner.

As @mom2rtk said in a PP, at Disneyland at the Paradise Pier Hotel there's a note on the bed telling you how much you'll be charged for the accent pillow if it "accidentally" goes home with you. It's not only not that hard to do it, they already are doing it.

And, as another PP stated, if one is able to steal a pillow and a bed runner with zero repercussions, then I'll have to bring a bigger suitcase next time that will fit that that Polynesian Village wall artwork and tiki lamp.;)

It just sounds like a convenient excuse on Disney's part to do something less expensive (less bedding, less cleaning), and blame some "cause" for it (everyone's stealing pillows!).

Exactly that.

Although in all fairness, I'm not sure if Disney has actually given a reason for the change. Just a lot of posters here who like to blame bad guest behavior for pretty much everything.

But if someone says it on the boards it has to be true right?::yes::;)

Or one poster who has a loved one "on the inside". ;)
