Has DCL REALLY Banned Over The Door Shoe Racks?

It depends on if they want us putting things on doorknobs. That one is pretty small...the pockets, anyway. I know I liked putting all of my toiletries in mine, deodorant, razor, combs, hairbrush...and the one you show wouldn't hold that larger stuff.

I have one favorite hanger that has rubber grips on the hooks, I wonder if that would be acceptable?

Although, at least the new ships have more corner shelving than the older ships did.

The DCL memo says no over the door. It does not give an exception for "Type of hook" and I expect stateroom hosts will have been told "take them all down"

Does anyone know about hooks on the Fantasy?

I recall there being 3 hooks on the wall across from the foot of the bed.

(I had an adjoining room, so I don't know if that's the standard location of all room's hooks or not.)

I don't think it has anything to do with "padded" (rubber, felt, whatever) hooks - those will prevent scratches on the underside, but most doors do not have enough clearance at the top and it ends up marring the door frame as well. In fact, the more padded the hooks, the higher it sticks up and even more likely to damage the top.

One thing I really feel the need to clarify. The home we live in isn't any kind of mansion, but it's a nice home, and I'm obsessive about taking care of it. It's my personality. Which in turn, means that I am obsessive about taking care of other rooms that I stay in. Other than changing out towels or making the beds, the stateroom hosts and housekeeping NEVER have to pick up after me.
Along with that, I would never do anything to damage the property of others.

If my over the door hanger was going to cause the door to not close, or if it was going to scratch at the top (yes, I think of those things, just as I would in my own home) I wouldn't use it.

But I'm glad to have caught this thread, because I hadn't heard that DCL was asking us to not use them. Since they've asked, I will no longer use one.

On one of my last cruises, I was sharing the room with two friends, and didn't know if they were bringing their over the door hangers, so I thought space might be limited.

I brought a small box like you'd buy at Target, Walmart or the post office, still folded flat...not quite shoebox size, and I put my toiletries in the box on a shelf near the safe in the room, which was right across from the bathroom. It worked great!

Same here!
I am always telling the kids & DH to put their things away they leave on the beds, couch, and such so that the Room Steward does not have to do it.
If DH and I are coming back after breakfast to nap or nap in the afternoon I tell the Room Steward not to do the bed but just change towels. I see no sense in him making the bed only for us to come back and nap more.
We put our own room service trays outside our door.
I would not treat the room any differently than I do my own home. :thumbsup2

The letter actually states that you will be fined if there is damage, NOT if you use an over the door holder..... Just saying.

You can also remove the metal hangers and replace with magnet hooks. You just hang the organizer by placing the holes on a couple of magnets.

I brought one our first cruise, never used it! Between the two bathrooms, there are lots is shelves for everything! I don't think they are necessary, and obviously, they are somehow damaging doors. It's better just to not bring one, and not have to worry about an extra $100 charge to argue about!

this is a great idea. And I have an LL Bean organizer which does hold a lot. Thanks for all the advice!

We used a jewelry hanger last time. It does NOT go OVER the door. It has a hanger and we hung it from the hook behind the door in the bathroom and put our toothbrushes, toothpaste and things like that in there. We needed to save room by the sink b/c we still had sippy cups that needed to be washed for our 1 year old so we had a small plastic bowl, detergent and a bottle brush by the sink.

worked great and I'm assuming it's fine to use again since it doesn't go over the door...this was on the Wonder

Not all of the staterooms have the split (two) bathrooms, and the extra shelving.
In fact, with my 12 or 13 (I've lost count) Disney cruises, I've only been in a room once that had the split bath.

The amount of space needed is different for everyone, anyway. Larger families need more space, some people who need to keep meds handy need more space....so it's hard to say (in general) that there's plenty of room.
