Has Budget asked you for a gas receipt?

I'll be renting from Budget too and saw another thread about receipts. So, how many of you renters were asked for the receipt when returning the car to MCO?

I wish I knew how to make a poll.

Why would they ask for a receipt? Most modern cars should never get a grade of gas higher than Regular in most states and as long as the tank reads full, what would it mater?

Sounds like a new policy. They say they could charge you if you don't fill up within a certain amount of miles away from the airport.

The last time I rented with budget was September 2009. The policy at MCO was in place then and requires a renter to gas up within 10 miles of the airport. The attendant did not ask to see my receipt when I returned the car.

I guess they are afraid of ovefilling, or that you will carry gas in a gas can to refill. Either one is probably not real good for the car.

We usually purchase the tank from the rental company. They usually charge a fair price, and then I don't need to search for a gas station near the airport. I totally understand not doing this however if you do not think you will use a full tank.

I believe my rental agreement with Alamo at BWI in July said that if I drove less than 20 miles for my rental, I needed to be prepared to show that I had purchased gas on my way to the airport. I think they do that to ensure that you fill the tank; if the tank is full-full (like the needle is pegged up past "F") and you don't do much driving, you might not have to buy gas.

We went to Pittsburgh last spring and rented a car at the airport. The gas tank was super-full. We drove into the city, parked at a hotel beside the ball park, drove across the city and back to the hotel the next day, drove across the city and back to the airport on the day after that. The needle on the gas tank never moved off "F", so I didn't put gas in the tank!

I'm not really sure why the rental companies should care if the tank is extremely full or just barely (or not quite) full, as long as the needle points to "F"; it's the next customer who will be filling the tank again, not the rental company!

When I rented from Budget in mid-April, they never asked me for a gas receipt. We did fill the tank, about 10 miles away. My issue was that they slapped me with a $14 charge for gas....saw it on my receipt in my email two days later. I questioned it, they told me it was a routine charge for rentals that fell under the 75 mile mark on that rental. Ummmm, we drove from Sanford to US/IoA, to Cocoa Beach, to WDW, to Tampa, back to WDW and then back to Sanford..over a 10 day period. Think that was a wee bit over 75 miles!!!! And our milage on the rental sheet showed that it was waaaaaay over that.
So, watch that kind of charge if you drive more than 75 miles.

Ummmm, we drove from Sanford to US/IoA, to Cocoa Beach, to WDW, to Tampa, back to WDW and then back to Sanford..over a 10 day period. Think that was a wee bit over 75 miles!!!! And our milage on the rental sheet showed that it was waaaaaay over that.
So, watch that kind of charge if you drive more than 75 miles.

I don't understand.....you were charged extra because you drove UNDER 75 miles?
We are renting from Budget and just want to be prepared. We are only driving Mco to the port.....

I 'think' it was because when you drive under 75 miles, you are apt to not refill the tank..it probably doesn't go down very much. That's the only reason I can think of. A lot of gas gauges stay at the full mark for quite awhile..so if driving under that 75 mile mark, it may just hover there, and you wouldn't feel the need to refill the tank.

We had a similar thing happen to us in Atlantic City, when we were there for my niece's wedding. The rental car company added a charge for driving under "X" number of miles (can't remember how many). Luckily I caught it, due to the price change, and straightened it out right on the spot. The rep at the counter reversed the charge.

I'm sure that I could have straightened it out after the fact, if need be, but it is always easier and quicker to handle things at point-of-purchase.

Why would they need a receipt? It seems that the needle on the dash board would be a good indicator if you put gas in the car or not.
