Yes, DD6 had hers removed at amost 4, and spent the night in the pedi unit. She stayed due to asthma, and the mix of that with general, sometimes causes problems.
I would tell your son, that he will be staying over, that way if he comes home, its a suprise thats good, rather than a suprise that he's staying over!
i also asume with his illness, he'll be staying over just for observation.
DD did not have any monitors and no nurses came in really, just 2x to make sure she was comfy and had enough blankets etc... i slept over with her, as our pedi unit is wonderful, and all rooms have pull outs....(they're also single units)..
Good luck to your son, and if you have the option- DO not hold him while they give him the med's to knock him out...I almost couldnt handle it...I'll never do it again. DD was given something orally about 45 minutes before the surgery that made her "drunk" (for lack of a better word)...and then she was fine with the mask, but the feeling of her body going limp was overwhelming!
