Has anyones DS or DD

Had to stay in the hospital after tonsil and adenoid surgery? DS 6 is going in (after a bunch of setbacks) on Tues. Finally have his meds right and his white blood count normal but hes so tiny (don't want to say frail) but he has not been well. (Grave's Disease) Just wondering if I should probably expect him to be admitted. Hes really nervous about the whole thing and I want to prepare him as best as I can. Thanks in advance!

Yes, DD6 had hers removed at amost 4, and spent the night in the pedi unit. She stayed due to asthma, and the mix of that with general, sometimes causes problems.

I would tell your son, that he will be staying over, that way if he comes home, its a suprise thats good, rather than a suprise that he's staying over!

i also asume with his illness, he'll be staying over just for observation.

DD did not have any monitors and no nurses came in really, just 2x to make sure she was comfy and had enough blankets etc... i slept over with her, as our pedi unit is wonderful, and all rooms have pull outs....(they're also single units)..

Good luck to your son, and if you have the option- DO not hold him while they give him the med's to knock him out...I almost couldnt handle it...I'll never do it again. DD was given something orally about 45 minutes before the surgery that made her "drunk" (for lack of a better word)...and then she was fine with the mask, but the feeling of her body going limp was overwhelming!

DD might be getting her tonsils out, don't they usually stay overnight? Or is an outpatient thing now?

My best friends ds had his out and he went home right after the surgery. Best of Luck!!

Our daughger had to stay at age 6. But, she has breathing issues due to her birth defect. Luckily she only stayed two days, in ICU, then they sent her home. Then she didn't even want the pain meds they gave her, just Tylenol.

Maybe you could ask to stay overnight with him if he has to stay. They let parents stay at Cape Cod Hospital and Childrens Hospital in Boston. This usually makes the kids feel a lot less worried, very uncomfortable place to stay for us on those little cots though, DH and I both stayed with DS when he was at Boston for a week...it was nice to get home!

my dd4 just had her adenoid out last week. she was supposed to have her tonsils out too, but because of a clotting problem they decided not to do it. she was going to have to spend the night if she was having the tonsils out. hope all goes well... i know i was a mess!!! prayers coming your way!!

Yes, DD had her tonsils and adnoids out when she was 6. She was supposed to come home that same day, but she started vomiting and wouldn't stop. She reacted to the anesthesia. I tend to do the same thing. She got to leave the next day. If there is any question, most doctors will keep your child overnight. The insurance thing has to do with hours. Since my daughter checked out of the hospital before noon that next day, the insurance considered it still out-patient.

I have had two ds to get their tonsils and adnoids out, one was 4 years old he stayed in overnight due to him having asthma, he did fine , Then amy other had to have them out at 21 months old he stayed in the hospital 5 days due to him not taking in fluid, then came home with an IV in his arm capped ,to go back for three more day for fluid at the hospital. But that was because he was so little.
