Has Anyone Used the Toll Pass With Avis?

Whenever we go to FL, we always just pay the tolls as we go because we only really have to deal with them on the way from and to MCO. It's my first time using Avis Car Hire as it was part of a Fly Drive package (I usually use Alamo or Dollar) and I'm thinking about just using the sunpass/toll transponder in the hire car so I don't have to stop at the tolls.

The Avis website says it's $2.95 a day + the toll cost. Does anyone know if it is $2.95 a day for the full 14 days (even though I will only be using a toll road on day 1 and day 14) or whether you are only charged for the days you use the sunpass? This is going to make a big difference in whether or not I will just pay as I go like I usually do. I can suffer paying an extra $6 but I don't want to pay for 12 days that I won't go anywhere near a toll road.

Anyone know!?

TIA

Yes it's per day even if you don't use it PLUS the till fee:-(

it's per day, even if you don't use the tolls, but there is a cap at $14.75 for a 30 days period. So you won't pay $40+ ( $2.95 * 14 ) but only $14.75 for your 14 days

Alamo on the other hand charges $2.95 for a 24hrs period starting when you use a toll. There is also a cap at $14.75 per rental period.

if you only use tolls on your way from, and to, MCO, then tolls with Alamo will come cheaper than with Avis ($5.9 with Alamo for 2 days of usage, against $14.75 with Avis)

Also beware increase in costs before you go. We flew into Miami earlier in the year and used Hertz, some roads were no cash so we just used it, I think they quoted $14.75 limit on their website, when the bill came it was $24.75 plus about $6 in tolls. I emailed them but reply said cost had gone up, more or less said tough.
I would only ever use the system if going thru many tols and cash only roads, a basic 2-3 week holiday around Orlando wouldn't be worth it to me, rather just pay cash.

I don't think it's worth to and from the airport only either way. You have a maximum of 2 tolls. The cost of the daily use is nearly as much (or more than) the actually tolls!

I might be tempted when driving out to KSC as you hit about 4 tolls on that route each way!

We use that route almost every trip, its now $4.25 each way, even when going out for a shuttle launch and lots of traffic never found the cash lanes busy so still not worth it to me.

I couldn't really remember - I just tell DH as we approach and he has to sort the cash :rotfl:

Thanks for your replies, everyone. That's what I suspected. I'll stick with my PAYG method I think!

On a different note... I've been following Matt's (and Lily's) blog, so sorry it hasn't worked out for him in NH, Wayne. Sounds like he'll be much happier back in Lancaster so good luck to him with all of his future studies!

Does anyone know if there are many tolls on the way to coco beach? And if so a rough cost?
Thanks
