Has anyone used the laundry service at AKL?

I know it's expensive, but since we're going in hot steamy August, I know we'll have to wash our clothes more. I have one resort day planned and I'm sure I can do some laundry, but I'd like to know I can send the laundry out if I have to.

Did they do a nice job?

I did not use the resort's laundry service, but did do some of our own laundry myself. The laundry room has 6 washers and either 10 or 12 dryers. The cost to wash is $2 a load as well as $2 for the dryers. I had used the laundry room about two years ago and have to say they have improved the dryers immensely. The last trip, it took a couple of cycles to get our clothes dried. This time, it took less time than the cycle to dry shorts and we're talking denim shorts -- not just cotton shorts.

I bought travel-size bottles of Tide from Target in their sample section and brought my own dryer sheets from home (placed a few in a zip-loc baggie). There is a television for viewing while doing your laundry or you could drop a load or two in the washers and then come back in less than 30 minutes and place the wet load(s) into a dryer. It was pretty quick and painless and was done during a time when we had come back to the resort to take showers before heading out for dinner.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but did want to let you know that the option of doing your own laundry is there and is not nearly as bad as one might think. :flower:

I didnt use the laundry service either, just the laundry room. I just remember the laundry room being like 2 miles away from my room. I was staying on the concierge side of the resort, near the pool. Now either that side didnt have a laundry area, or all the washers were filled, so I had to go all the way to the other side. It took forever. The facility was good, just a long hike.

Next time I will consider the service!!

Surprisingly, I had no idea AKL offered anything other than drycleaning. We literally just returned from 10 days at WDW (8 at AKL, 1 at CSR, and 1 off-site). Dh was a sweetie and stayed up really late one night to do laundry. Be forewarned: AKL does NOT have enough washers and dryers for the number of guests. DH waited in line for over an hour to put in just our first load of wash. (With 3 kids and 90 degree weather, we had a lot of laundry to do but ended-up doing only the bare minimum out of courtesy to others.) He did not get back to our room until 2:30 a.m. or so. As well, he said there were plenty of other people waiting to use the machines.)

We've stayed at AKL 2 times - once at concierge level for a week and once just me and dd (then 4) and ds (then 6). Even alone with 2 small kids in June, laundry was simple. We put it in, went to the pool, then just moved it to the dryer and went and swam some more. Used the stroller to carry it back to the room - folded of course. You need fresh tees and things when it's hot! I don't know if it's worth paying to have it done for you when it's really not inconvenient to do it yourself. I double the dryer sheets to get my clothes smelling extra fresh though when using the shared washers and dryers. Have fun!

Thanks guys! I've done laundry at AKL before, and I don't have a problem doing it. I just wanted to know if the laundry service did a nice job.

I only used the facilities on the second floor - and it was a hike! LOL! - but I think there is another one by the pool somewhere.

Thanks again! If I use the service, I'll let you know how it is!
