We are going on a short trip for a few days to Bloomington Indiana and I would like to try Priceline to get cheep hotel reservations but I'm too chicken. You can't see what hotel you are going to get untill the end and you've already put in your credit card number. Has anyone used Priceline and got a really bad hotel. I was planning on choosing the 3 star if I do it.

That's only if you name your own price. I have a lot of luck with Travelocity.

Just compare a bunch of different sites.

Good luck!

I have used Priceline "Name Your Own Price" many times. I never bid on anything less than ***. I have gotten a Residence Inn in Denver for $55 a night (after all the fees, it came to about $75), the Hyatt in the Orlando airport for $50, a Renaissance Inn in Philly for $48, and the Hilton in Philly for $45.
I am not confident in it enough to use it for a weeks vacation though, but if I am only staying a night or two, I can deal with pretty much anything.

You can biddingfortravel.com for bidding advice. There are only 2 *** hotels listed for Bloomington, Courtyard and Crowne Plaza.

I have used Priceline and have always been happy with the result. However, when traveling with the whole family, I am uncomfortable taking the chance of having only 1 bed. Priceline only guarantees occupancy for 2. Most people have good luck requesting 2 beds but I would stress about it too much so I don't take the chance. We usually use Hotwire when I NEED to have 2 beds. The prices are comparable to Priceline Name Your Own Price and they guarantee occupancy.

Thanks for the info. Makes me more likely to use it knowing that the only 3 star hotels in Bloomington are Courtyard and Crowne Plaza. I have stayed in both of those in other places and they were pretty nice.

Yes! I just booked us a $90 hotel for $35 for our drive down to Disney. Check out biddingfortravel.com. There you can get an idea of what hotels are offered in the part of town you are looking in. I chose an area that had 3 hotel choices and I knew ahead of time I would be happy with any of them.

I have done priceline many times- normally I do 3-4 star and have had some great rooms. Once I did a 2 star- got a room for like 25 bucks but it only had one bed- if was only for 2 nights so kids took sleeping bags, not my first choice but it was clean and a great price. We have stayed at Crowne Plaza's for 4 stars that were very nice some even had separate livingrooms and brought us a real crib for free.

We have used priceline with good sucess. Usually its for the nights before we fly out or a night before a cruise when it really just needs to be a bed. I have been able to get some really nice places cheap during the week!
