my question is if the airlines are allowing them in carryon luggage since they are liquid. I looked on the tsa.gov site but didn't really find the answer. my son will not be a ticketed passenger, just a lap infant, and it is for him. can anyone help?
thanks

I looked up this information on the Southwest airlines website, since we also will be traveling with an EpiPen next week. An EpiPen is allowed as long as the patient's name on the prescription matches the name on the ticket. I see no mention of infants, though--sorry. I would call the airline.

I always carry a bottle of Benadryl along with the Epipen in my purse in case of a reaction, but I'm thinking I won't get to take that. DS has a peanut allergy, so I'm bringing some Lysol wipes to clean off the seat and tray as best I can when we board. I'm a nervous wreck! I've even thought about having him wear some sort of mask, but that's probably extreme.

I think carrying on an epi-pen is ok. It falls under the prescription medication guidelines.

Meway? Do you think you could get your child the benadryl chewables? Since they are in pill form they are ok as carry ons.

I carried a Byetta pen in a carryon and they never questioned it. This was end of Aug. returning Sept. 1. It was in one of those pen coolers from Frio. I took a copy of the prescription bill stating who it was for since it isn't labeled on the pen itself. They never asked.

I think Benadryl also makes the dissolvable tongue strips.

I also carry a epi-pen for a peanut allergy. I haven't flew in 2 years but the first time I flew, They questioned it among theirself, nothing was said to me.
One of the attendents knew what it was an pushed it through, the last time we flew about 2 yrs ago, nothing was said at all. From what I have heard this time around, it must be in the original box with the patients name on it, you can also get a letter from the Dr. saying you must carry it with you at all times. I haven't heard of any problems with the pen and flying.

I haven't flew because of the fear of flying and the peanut allergy, I was new to it so I never thought twice about it. I have heard about washing everything down. I talked to the Dr. and they say just be prepared with everything, the chances are more touch contact then ingest contact, is what I was told.

The last time we flew though was with Southwest, my DS vomited the whole time, once we got there he was fine, so I am worried was it air sickness, or peanut allergen?
We took the first flight out and I really don't remember what was served. We drove home so I can't compare to the flight up.

That was his 2nd time flying, the first time was with Spirit we flew up and back, with no problems.

Next Year we are flying, I will be calling the airline and wiping everything down, nothing is to exetreme when it comes to PA.

Brilliant!! Why didn't I think of that? I think the liquid is supposed to be faster acting than chewables, but heck, it's better than nothing. I've never heard of the strips. I'm going to look for those as well.

Thank you for the tips! :thumbsup2

Epipens are definitely allowed, but you need to have the prescription label that comes on the box. I've been trying to figure out the Benadryl issue too since I always carry it with me in case my DD has a reaction. From what I understand, I think you can carry a small bottle on without a prescription, but this is not something that I want to have confiscated because I don't understand the rules. I know an allergy attack for my DD is extremely unlikely, but I also don't want to be stuck in the middle of the sky in an airplane with nothing available to help.

I was talking with our pharmacist who told me about the tablets and meltaways (although I haven't been able to find them). She also said that my DD's doctor could call in a prescription for Benadryl for her to fill which is probably what we will end up doing.

I have a similiar type pen dispenser for my perscription medication. It was allowed, but I made use I had a perscription for the pen, and the perscription for the liquid medication I was carrying (which loads into the pen). I told security ahead of time about it, and then they had me pull it out to separately inspect. I was then allowed to proceed.

According the TSA website you can bring any essential Non-prescription (liquid) medication as long as it is 4 oz or less. That is basically a small bottle of Benadryl. They are not going to deny you bringing that. In an allergic reaction (severe type) the liquid is much faster acting. If you or your child might need an epi pen, then you should have the Benadryl liquid with you also. I was just on there researching for bringing my Epi-pen. I really don't need it on the plane (fire ant allergy) but need to make sure I have it as soon as my feet touch Florida soil! Can't risk waiting for my bags so it has to go carry on.

They are also allowing any essential liquid prescription meds (no max amount listed)--I also have to bring a nebulizer and the vials of liquid med for it, and inhalers. All prescription meds have to labeled with an official prescription that matches the name of someone traveling.

Don't get behind me in the security line--I think we may take a while!!!! I am going to keep all meds confined to a seperate backpack so I hope that helps the process. I can let them know that everything in there is meds, I assume they will hand check them.

Hubby flew to the states last week and had his epi-pens with him. As long as they have the prescription right on the epi-pen container you are okay.

We flew with our lap child last month after all the security changes. Security never questioned our epi-pen. Our Benadryl did not trigger any security checks flying out of Chicago-O'hare, but they pulled out the diaper bag at MCO and questioned the Benadryl.
