My DDs are in college and one has a serious boyfriend. We won't be going to WDW this year because I am out of points, but next year we wanted to go and wanted our college aged girls to go too. They want to bring friends (we never did that before) and one wants to bring her boyfriend.

We would get a 2 bedroom if we did that. But has anyone done this before? This is very new territory for us....travel with a boyfriend along.

I wanted to stay at Animal Kingdom....then I did remember someone saying that at Old Key West they were able to put a twin air mattress in the laundry room.

Can anyone confirm that this would work? I could put the boyfriend in there then.

But I like the idea of the 3 bathrooms in the 2 bedroom at Animal Kingdom.

Anyway....I still just don't know how I feel about all of this. This is the first 'serious' boyfriend either of my girls have ever had (they are almost 19 and seem to think they will be getting married after college is over).

It doesn't seem that long ago I was taking them to WDW to have breakfast in the Castle or to 'wake up Tinkerbell' in Fantasyland.

This is really one of those questions where it is most dependent upon what you feel comfortable with. Everyone will have differing opinions about sleeping accomodations of non-married people.

If it were me, it would be most dependent upon the seriousness of the relationship between DD & BF at that time. Given that they are in college things can change very quickly and who knows what their relationship will be like once the trip rolls around. I most likely would have the girls sleep in one bedroom and the boyfriend sleep on the sleeper sofa or sleeper chair at Kidani. There is no way I would invite someone along one vacation and then make them sleep in a laundry room.

We've had the boyfriend stay in the LR.

I've also read about people putting a air mattress in the laundry room at OKW. I think that could work but it would be tight and the mattress might have to be moved to open & close the door. Could also put a mattress in the entry hall if you don't want the LR used.

This is such a hard age! I really don't know how to deal with it all. But he would have to be in the living room (just thought the laundry room might give him more privacy since everyone would be coming into the living room in the mornings).

I did figure that if we got a 2 bedroom, there would be room for each of my girls to have a friend come along.....or if no friend came then we would still enjoy the 2 bedroom. And we would drive or van so no airfare to worry about. That way the trip could be an almost 'last minute' thing for friends (if there is a break up, then she could invite a different friend).

It would be so much easier with same gender friends. And then I thought...what is my other DD gets a boyfriend and wants to bring him too....I don't think two college age boys who don't know each other would want to share a pull out sofa.

So I guess we would need to get a 2 bedroom where they have the sleeper chair and the sleeper couch....'just in case'.

UGH! Young adult children are complicated!

Does the laundry door at Okw open 'in-ward'?

I can't speak to the amount of space that your family requires...

But, my husband took our daughter and her then boyfriend on a college road trip. They all shared regular hotel rooms and had a blast.

The boyfriend later became our son in law and my husband feels about him like he is one of our sons. They really bonded on that trip.

My advice is to use this as an opportunity to really get to know this young man, And let him see the real YOU! He may become family!

Funny story... When the college look see trip was over, and my husband was home and showing me the pictures he had taken on his digital camera. It turned out that every time my husband was out of sight, and left his camera unattended the kids had staged hilarious scenes and taken pictures. We laughed SO hard.

yes, our ds is taking his girlfriend. we looked at akv and blt for the extra sleeper chair and sleeper sofa in the living room. plus the extra bathroom. you can bring the air mattress to ssr or okw.

The first WDW trip where both my college aged DD's were bringing boyfriends, I went with a 2 bedroom and left it up to them to work out where they were sleeping. DH and I had the master bedroom, the rest was up for grabs and their decision.

I figured, since they both lived at college during the school year, they were already making their decisions as adults on sleeping in the dorms. They discussed and everyone was happy with their decisions.

The trip went well and set the stage for many more future trips with and without boyfriends. Oldest DD is now married, youngest DD is now living with her fiance. All is well... :)

That is a cute story :) And based on things as of now, I could see him ending up as a member of our family. They seem so comfortable with each other and are together all the time and never get sick of each other (they met a year ago).

He already calls me 'mom' and refers to our house as 'home'....which he seems to be here almost as much as at his own house (he also lives at home and goes to college....we live in a college town).

I was hoping it would be a 'bonding' trip....but I also know I need to be prepared for things to change last minute.

I am now leaning towards a 2 bedroom that sleeps 9 (even though there will only be six of us....but the two beds in the living room are probably best) with 3 bathrooms......so I guess my choices would be BLT, AKV, or THV.

I am guessing this first 'boyfriend' trip will be the hardest. haha Once you go through one the rest won't seem as difficult.

I suppose it is one of those 'stages' in life we have to adjust to.

Did it work out well? I am thinking the extra bathroom would really be a plus.
I prefer to have my own bathroom.

I mean...our absolute favorite place to stay is the Boardwalk, and that is where I would like to stay, but trying to make it all work out for the different possible situations seems to leave us with Animal Kingdom, Bay Lake, or Treehouse.

Oh and I will add, we only have 150 points, so we will have to borrow enough points to get a 2 bedroom. A Grand Villa would be impossible for us.

We have done it, yes. More than once. We found the 2 bedroom turned out to be awkward with privacy and then went to individual studios. We were happier with that arrangement.

We have done a number of these trips. We have a son and daughter. Have done just the girlfriend and also one of each. With my son's girlfriend, she stayed with my daughter in a studio and he slept on the pull out in our two-bedroom (we had other family in the studio portion of our two bedroom). The teenagers having their own space worked out well so we didn't nag about putting away their clothes. When we had both along we had a two bedroom.

Well getting 3 studios (one for my DDs, one just for the boyfriend and one for us) would be OK except if they did break up then I would have an empty studio at the last minute, but with the two bedroom we would just enjoy the extra space regardless if he was there or not. Also, it would seem like we wouldn't see each other much, so then there would be no point to vacationing with my DDs if we never saw them.

We just did this in August. My 20 year old daughter brought her boyfriend and my 17 year old son brought a buddy. We got a 2 bedroom lockoff at BWV. The boys stayed in the studio side, my wife and I were in the master bedroom, and my daughter slept on the couch. We then went on a 7 day cruise. We got an inside stateroom for the boys (The man cave. It was literally a cave because they had no window.) and my daughter stayed with us in a Junior suite.

That sounds like an awesome trip! Did you pay for all of them? Or did the friends pay for themselves (if you don't mind me asking).

They covered airfare (from Massachusetts) and we paid the rest... worth every penny!
