Has anyone taken a cab instead of DME?

We are making a combined trip of Universal Studios for 2 days, then on to DVC. Therefore no DME from MCO. I'm trying to decide whether to take a cab, rental, or town car service from MCO to US (Portifino Bay); then from PBH to DVC.

I've checked the Taxi fare calculator & it shows $35 one-way but I've read that it's more like $50+. Any and all advice is welcome. Cheapest option would be preferable but it's not the only variable since I'm travelling with 2 little ones.

I'd go to transportation board.

I think a 1 day car rental would prob. be as cheap and way easier. You can rent at the airport and drop off at univ. or Dis depending on which company you choose. I think we did enterprise and there was no extra fee to drop off when it was not at an airport. They dropped us right back off at the resort. Worked perfect and stopped for groceries and dinner.

You can take ME 1 way.

I would definitely suggest a one way rental - you will get your $$$ worth because you can keep it for 24 hours to make a grocery store run for snacks, bottled water, and anything else you might need (like a trip to the Disney Outlet!! )

On out September trip we did a one day rental on Sunday to go to Mass at Mary, Queen Of the Universe - however we discovered that next time we would more than likely take the LYNX bus as it would be much more inexpensive.

I know LYNX bus goes to Disney - but I am not 100% sure about Universal - I would check it out of the LYNX website. It would definitely be your most affordable option!

Cabs aren't per person are they? I thought that was just for shuttles.

I would rent from National or Alamo at the airport, drive yourself to Universal, have a nice dinner off property if you are trying to save a few bucks, then on your way to WDW stop at the grocery and stock up. Unload at WDW and then return the car the following morning at the Dolphin. Just drop the keys with the valet and hop a Disney bus to your park of choice. Easy!

Don't forget that Universal hotels (unlike Disney hotels) charge for parking.

My last trip in a cab was, Beachclub to MCO for $57 one way plus tip and that was a while ago -

I recommend a town car service over a cab or even a rental if you are not driving anywhere else.

We did a similar trip in August. MCO to Hard Rock to Boardwalk and back to MCO and we used a town car service. MCO to Hard Rock and then Hard Rock to Boardwalk was considered a r/t so we got the free 30 minute grocery stop.

I liked knowing the car service would be waiting at the airport and again at Hard Rock for a smooth transfer on check out/check in day.

If you'd rather be driven versus drive a rental car, then I highly recommend booking a car service over taking a taxi. For about the same price, you'll get better service (including being met at baggage claim so the driver can help you with your bags) and most likely a nicer and cleaner vehicle.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but when pricing even the cheapest rental car, adding gas, tolls, and parking at Universal; wouldn't the rental car be equal to (prob more) than a Town Car?

Granted there is an element of freedom with a rental BUT you would lose time picking up car, parking, dropping off, and the hassle of a shuttle back to the Disney hotel from the drop off.

Plus the service would offer the grocery stop.

It seems to me the OP would be better of with a town car - no?
