VB is a 1st class resort. As dreamflight and floridafam has stated....you can do everything or nothing.

When we go to VB we look forward to the non-commando type WDW vacation. We have stayed in the 1BR's and the ocean view Inn rooms. This June we are staying in the Beach Cottage.

Once you stay at VB you get hooked. Now that my sister has moved to West Palm Beach 3 weeks ago, we will be taking a lot more trips to VB which is only 1 hr away. ::yes::

Here are few links of VB for you below......

LOL!!!~ could be very :crowded: !!!

Holly...my DH is the SAME! He LOVES every aspect of the place, and becomes "footloose and fancy-free" as soon as we pull in past the guard house (possibly even before this, as we land at MCO...and we take the little tram over the pond, etc.)! It's a place we can "unwind" (as Nick posted..."non-commando" fashion). In fact, we never carry watches...or care to know what day of the week it is! We loose all concept of space and time, and the REAL WORLD seems like another planet.

We all consider it a "GET-AWAY" (Beaches, Key West, etc.) as opposed to a "GO-TO" (WDW, IOA, SW, etc.). Perhaps this is part of the tremendous DRAW and compelling URGE which brings us back again, and again. We have GOT to get into this DVC thing! Thanks so much for the PM's Nick, and all the info. Now...to do some more research, etc. :sunny: I'm so glad there are others out there as "passionate" about this little haven as we are. It is idyllic, and offers everything we dream of...and then some. Are you considering moving there, Nick? We have contemplated purchasing a home there as well. We could all work *(for FUN) at Disney's VERO BEACH together! :teeth: Holly & her Hubby too!!

Take care....TTFN...DF99 :wave2:

The resort itself sounds great but the beach has me a little concerned. I have always preferred the white sandy beaches that are so beautiful on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Living in Atlanta, I grew up going to the Gulf Coast and have always loved it there. I never really liked the East Coast beaches so I am afraid that I might be disappointed by Vero Beach as far as the beach itself. I really want to check out the resort though so maybe I will just have to take a short 2 or 3 day trip.

We always have plenty of room to sit on the beach and we always rent 2 chairs and an umbrella. Sure, it is not as big as most of the beaches on the Gulf Coast. When we take our kids to Sand Key my DS always asks why the walk to the beach is so long.

I love the sand at VB and think it is very soft. I enjoy being able to sit on the beach while DH plays in the waves not very far from me. My kids really don't swim in the water but they do like to jump over the edge of the wave when it comes to shore.

There is also something about the CM's that work at VB. They make you feel at home, call you by name and are real gems, IMO.

I can honestly say that I could spend every vacation at VB without going to WDW and be totally happy.
Here is my response to another poster who asked about Halloween activities.

Yes, they do have special activities for Halloween. We were there in October and are going back this year.

They had a children's costume contest, an adult costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest, the CM's decorated pumkins and displayed them. We took a picture of one of the CM's and her NEMO pumpkin and our children. I am trying to get my DH to post our picture of the trip. I'll let you know.

Most of the CM's had costumes on. Children could decorate masks in the Community Hall to wear in a Halloween Parade around the pool later in the day.

They had slime relays on the lawn during the day. At night, they closed down the pirate ship so it would dry and turned it into a ghost ship. They had trick or treating at various different places around the resort-our kids loved this. They handed out really nice glow in the dark pumpkin, cat and witch necklaces that were real popular. They also had a DJ by the pool while the snack bar served caramel apples, cotton candy, drinks and pizza. The resort also provided cider and donuts.

They had a fortune teller at the pool at night, also.

We had a blast! There was a large group of high schoolers staying there for the Florida swim and dive finals and we thought this was going to be awful. They were the best. Some of the nicest kids we have ever met. They made the party a lot of fun. Two of the guys dressed up like Santa and Mrs. Claus and had everybody laughing.

We were so sad when we had to leave. Two of the CM's had befriended our children and gave them little Halloween gifts. It was really nice.

I think we ended the night in the Green Cabin room playing a game of Checkers.

We could all work *(for FUN) at Disney's VERO BEACH together!

Believe me, I check their job line frequently. 772-234-2069.

DH applied for a transfer with his company to VB but hasn't heard anything.

:D

Floridafam, you know I want in on this Vero-lovefest! Dreamflight, your use of the word "wild" to describe the beach is exactly the feeling I get. It's like you stumble on this wonderful jewel....that looks different every time I see it. Sometimes the beach has giant waves, sometimes smooth as glass. Sometimes there's a fairly wide strip, sometimes you are on the water's edge.

It's a personal choice how much you like (or not) Vero. Just like I would be miserable at the most deluxe of ski resorts.

Right at the resort is quiet, especially in the evening. That's one fault I agree with (I'm also not thrilled with the food at the restaurants). But, there are places to explore in the area.

I also noticed that the dramatic shift from go-go-go at WDW to the relaxation of Vero can make things seem boring. I've started going to Vero first so I can really appreciate all the things I enjoy about Vero. It's a toss up -- there's a lot to be said for "catching your breath" after a Disney trip.

It is true that you need to be cautious with children near the ocean. There is a guarded public beach right next to the resort.

And ladies.....count me in as a future neighbor/co-worker, too!!!

Dreamflight, you really need to look into DVC. The prices keep going up and you keep spending money on vacation accomodations. At least give it serious consideration.

Yes..... the Vero-Sebastian area is in our top 4(Orlando,Melbourne, and WPB) area's in Florida we are
considering when we move th to Florida in 3 years. We are planning to look at all of them more in depth the next 2 years and make a decision. Plus with my sister in WPB, she will keep us well informed.

I knew you would find this thread.::yes::

goin2disneyagain~No need for too much "concern" about the beach. My use of adjectives are derived from a "DISNEY PERSPECTIVE", (hence...WILD on a Disney scale!). The beach is very natural looking, with Cape American beachgrass protecting the dunes. There are also markers in the summer, where the "sea turtle" nests are located. :sunny: We have had some wonderful times with Florida Fish & Game associate "Lori Veber", whom guides the Turtle walks on summer eves. We have stood silently over the carapace of a mammoth loggerhead, and watched in amazement as she desposits hundreds of eggs into a neatly carved sand pit. All...mostly by the light of the moon, and a special "red" light held by Lori. Obviously, an experience one never forgets. ;) It's a magical place, with a "special" beach. One look...and you'll be thrilled you went. Give it a try...for just a 2-3 day hop, as you mentioned. Then, let me know if you are hooked, and planning a longer sojourn.

floridafam~We could do a VERO advertisement together! Certainly better than the Disney Cruise line clip currently showing. (LOL). But then again, that would pique additional interest in our "hidden gem", and I kind of like things the way they are!! :teeth:

We too, rent the chairs and relax. I LOVE the feel of the sand, and making sculptures and castles as a family. The best thing about this beach is...it's NEVER overcrowded! There are always places to walk...stroll, and even swim. The popular beaches in other areas of Florida are "packed" with patrons. The "solitude" is one of the greatest appeals of this beach. Sitting and watching the huge Pelicans DIVE into the waves, again and again. I just never tire of these activities.

We agree upon the CM's too. The atmosphere they promote is SO home-like. We know all the management, associates & their families/lives away from the resort. One in particular is so sweet to our DD. Each summer, she sends a decorated bag and card to our Villa. Inside, are always a couple of special trading pins, and a Disney Plush...along with some other treats. She has been doing this for more than 5 years. It's just another "point of light" for us....which completes the Galaxy of VERO.

We too...play checkers in the Green Cabin room. We enjoy all the activities offered in this location.

Halloween sounds incredible! I'm not surprised, as the fourth of JULY was spectacular! We all received faux tattoos, made masks for the parade, entered the watermelone-eating contest, etc. There were so many things offered over the course of the day...it was nearly surreal.

Please, let me know if your DH hears anything from his Company. You would make the BEST neighbors. ^_^

PamOKW~Welcome to the "Winterfest of VERO~LOVE", 2004! :wave2: You did a fabulous job of capturing the "MYSTIQUE" of the Vero Beach waterfront. It is borderline indescribable, with the ever-changing landscape and views. But, it's drenched in continuity...something we always EXPECT/COUNT UPON to be there, and be similar to our most recent memories. Nature and God have never disappointed, and we secretly breathe a sigh of relief upon the initial "sight" of the ocean/beach.

I'm not too crazy over the food in the restaurants either, and grow tired of "fast food" rather quickly. Even desirable sit-down restaurants seem to prepare/serve "fast food", when they are your only option. While at Vero, I actually enjoy "cooking" meals in the Villa. The kitchen is so quaint, cozy and cottage-like. It's like stepping into barbies dreamhouse, and using her easy-bake oven...etc.! There's a genuine sense of "FUN" and enjoyment in this process which is not present at home. ^_^ I truly feel as though we are in our own little beach home. Planning the meals is part of our traditions, as well as shopping for supplies. We have Taco/fajita night, Pizza night (home-made), Spaghetti night...etc. We fix lunch ala "picnic~style" to take to the beach. We even buy a little disposable "grill" and BBQ outside one eve. We LOVE the freedom such accomodations offer. Prior to VERO, we are at the Peabody and Portofino. We have nice CL suites, (A butler~Villa suite at the PBH), but none compare with Vero. We are not able to "prepare" our own food...therefore we dine-out every meal. We also do this for the remainder of our trip AFTER Vero. Therefore...while IN VERO...we enjoy the "home~cooked" meals and "FAMILY" time shared together. Everything SLOWS down...and there is no sense of RUSH, URGENCY. Time nearly stands still. It is the proverbial antithesis of the equinox, the literal "Summer Solstice" of the Penninsula, and the complete oxymoron to WDW.

*We too, stay at Vero PRIOR to WDW. We enjoy the "unwinding" process, just before the Go-Go-Go phase of our visit. It's like practicing yoga and meditation. We need to slow~down, before we can shift into a higher gear. So, we break-into this mode methodically, slowly...and take our time. Doing this, we seem to be much less "harried" while at WDW. The sea and water escape transforms our very core. Nothing bothers us...after VERO. :sunny:

We are seriously considering becoming part of the DVC family. We are so enthralled with the concept, and enjoy the accomodations annually. We're in the "homework" phase. :goodvibes

Nick@ VB+OKW~My DB lives in Melbourne Beach. This is how we happened to "stumble" across VERO in 1999. We were visiting him for a day/two while in the WORLD, and took a scenic drve down A1A (love Sebastian Inlet). We came upon the sign "DISNEY'S VERO BEACH", and nearly came unglued! For some odd reason, we always "pictured" this resort to be much more remote, etc., and farther away from WDW. We were stunned, and pulled into the parking lot to take a peek. The guard was helpful, offering guest parking for a "lookiloo" adventure! We stepped into the lobby...and were immediately HOOKED. We even inquired about accomodations at the front desk. We strolled the grounds, and viewed a Villa (courtesy of a FD associate), and planned our initial stay. It was everything we dreamed...and MUCH, MUCH more.

*Which cruise are you taking on the Wonder? The 3, 4 or 7 night?
We have cruised on the 7-night Western (Magic), and the 4-eve Eastern (Wonder), as well as a 7-eve Eastern (Wonder). We also took the Eastern years ago...on Premier's BIG RED BOAT (Dubbed the Disney Cruise back then!). DD loved Pluto's playhouse, but this cruise "paled" in comparison to the DCL. We were so excited when Disney initiated the CL. We waited for the 7-eve, then the Western itinerary. We have fallen in love with the CL too. Are you using DVC points for your cruise? Thanks again, for all of your kind and generous assistance.

You'll LOVE the 4~day Cruise!~We had such a lovely time. We were on the 5th floor, with a balcony stateroom (same room # each time, on both ships!). We too, used DU. They offer the best prices and perks (stateroom credits, etc), and are the most informative/responsive agents in the world. :teeth:

The first cruise we ever took was on the Big Red Boat, a four-day. We brought the "Patches" from our DOC...just in case. None of us felt sick. (Thank Goodness). On the 7-eve Western, DD experienced a little bit of nausea and dizziness, and the ship's doc gave her some pills. These helped her tremendously. She nearly fell one eve in the dining room, after sitting for so long and then standing. Another dining room guest told us they fell in the bathroom from the same affliction. Take care when standing after a spell of sitting.

I also recall, after the 7-eve cruise, the feeling of "rocking" even when we were on dry land. This continued for more than a week. It must have been happening on the ship, and I either failed to notice or blocked it out. ::yes:: It was a strange feeling, of being back on TERRA FIRMA! We love the ships, and the stabilizers are amazingly effective. But, there are a lot of folks whom experienced some form of sea sickness or another. It's always good to be prepared. ;)

Have you reserved any excursions? Be sure to visit Paradise Island and Atlantis. It was the highlight of our trip! We loved every port. Enjoy!!

We also enjoy Disney's Old Key West. It is the first DVC location we visited. We stayed in a studio on the second floor. It was one of the most memorable times we have shared at WDW. There was a "hail" storm, with stones the size of golf balls falling. There was reported damage downtown, and trees were uprooted by the high winds. In my excitement to step outside the front door with DH & DD (whom were watching the storm/hail), I accidentally CLOSED the door...locking it behind me! We were stuck. DH just looked at me...and shook his head (LOL). :upsidedow

Some folks on the first floor heard us talking (they were watching the storm too), and offered assistance. I then remembered the door to the little balcony was unlocked! DH went through their studio, and out to the patio. He climbed a palm to the rail of our porch...and over he went! HOORAY!! We were in like Flynn. Of course, during the climb, there was a deluge of stinging, sideways-blowing, freezing rain, high winds...and giant strikes of lightening overhead. All of this added to the extreme drama and excitement of the moment. It is SO funny to look back safely (dry and warm) now...and recall such times. When DH opened the front door, he was drenched to the skin. He smiled wryly and called out, "Okay honey....we're in. It's safe to come up. Are you sure you don't want to try for a repeat performance?! Do you really need a key?" LOL...he has such a wicked sense of humor. :rotfl:

It wouldn't have be nearly as good a story but...next time you could call the front desk and they'll send someone to let you in. ;)

Dreamflight -- you have absolutely excellent taste in resorts my friend. ;) Nick, let me know how you make out on the cruise -- I haven't done that one yet!
