I'm not sure if they're a nationwide company but around here we have a book store called half-price books that sells used books. Well I have about 30 books I am looking to get rid of all at once (I am burned out from ebaying off 100+ DVDs). Anyways, I know the store will pay cash for your used books but I can't find any info on approximate returns. I'd hate to drive an hour with my books just to get a few dollars although getting rid of them is the top priority right now.

So if you have sold to half-price books, please give me an idea on what you got for different things.

Thanks in advance.

I sold a whole box and got like $17. They make an offer on everything you bring in together, not individual items. I was just lamenting yesterday that I didn't know about paperbackswap.com at the time.

It's probably not worth it. They don't pay that well. If you had just a huge amount of books it might be worth it.

Now if all 30 are recent releases and on the top sellers lists, then possibly it might be worth it.

The last time I sold to them, they paid me about $50 for about 8 medium boxes of stuff. But I had a lot of childrens VHS tapes, some CD's and hardbacks. They pay less than nothing for paperbacks.

I like shopping there, but I don't think I will ever sell there again. :sad2:

when the half price books first opened up by my house, they gave a fair amount of money. Now its not even worth it. They will give you 10 cents for a paper back, maybe 50 cents for a best seller if your lucky.

Also, if you have books from book clubs, they (or at least the one near me) will NOT take them. I inherited some mysteries that I had read approx 100 times and could recite the stories in my sleep, but it turned out my mom bought them from a book club. They offered to take them and DONATE them someplace, but I didn't think they deserved the tax deduction (I'm sure they donate enough to perhaps take a charity deduction), so took them back home.

I don't remember what I got, but I remember being really depressed when I leftt. I took the offer b/c I just didn't want the books and it was more money than donating them...but the karmic good feeling of donation felt better than THAT!

Well I took them anyways since we came up with a few reasons to visit the area the Half Price books was in. Needless to say I was quite underwhelmed with their offer. They offered me $35 for the 40 books. Many were newer hardbacks too. I could have gotten 3x that on ebay or half if I had the patience for another round of ebay. I think I would have been fine with the offer too if they would have actually looked into what the books were. Instead the guy stacked them as he took them out of the bag and gave me that amount within 30 seconds of me coming through the door. Thanks for the advice everyone gave. Sorry I didn't take it...lol!! From now on, no more visits to Borders and buying a book for $24 that I sell for 24 cents!!
