and did it get really delayed?

I always used DHL and it was delivered within two days. I thought that the price was good but cannot remember the price per pound.

I never trust USPS. I used UPS and Fedex both in the past with no problems.

We use UPS every trip and have never encountered a problem.

Thanks! I just checked prices on ups.com and the prices are not bad! I thought I would end up spending a lot more, but it doesn't look that way at all.
:thumbsup2

I was under the impression that you should never ship to Disney via USPS. Here's a quote from a thread I had saved regarding shipping your luggage to your resort.

"The US Post Office does NOT recognize Disney streets, any and all mail being sent to Disney through the US Post Office will go to the PO Box (regardless of how you address it) as the post office does not deliver to Disney directly. From the PO Box it is sorted into sections and then specific locations before it is delivered out to property. This can take quite a bit of time."

We arrive tomorrow and I shipped three suitcases via UPS ground service. The heaviest was close to 50 lbs and the lightest was almost 40. I shipped baby food, formula, diapers, clothes and toiletries as there is no way I could have managed three suitcases, three strollers, one car seat, two toddlers and an infant between the two of us. The total was $224 and it's worth every cent, IMHO! ;)

This time I didn't make the same mistake that I made last time which was to have the UPS store box it. For them to box it and charge me the cost of supplies was almost as much as the shipping (That trip I sent one bag ahead.) It was a little under $100 to ship the bag and it was close to $70 bucks to pack it. :scared1: I'll never do that again! It's not like I'm travelling with Louis Vuitton luggage. :lmao:

We always ship FedEx. Our package is at the resort in 2 days. Never ever use USPS as they are too unreliable.

We were checking the rates and actually found that FedEx was cheaper! Go figure. Glad to hear it only took two days. We will be shipping our package this Friday for the weekend after Thanksgiving. DO you think that is too early??

We just shipped a package UPS to AKL for our arrival next week and it weighed about 50 lbs and cost $24. It will be there the day before we get there. UPS has very good rates.:)

I would ship it on that Friday. With it being Thanksgiving it's better to have it there early than arrive late. Have a great trip.:cheer2:

I have always wanted to do this. So what do you do, ship it addressed to the front desk of your hotel? Do you usually send it so it arrives after you have arrived so you are sure to get it? Just curious how all this works since I might like to try it. Thanks!

As noted before.. do NOT use the United States Postal Service for shipping to your resort....

Don't ship it through the Post Office... Here is why... The US Post Office does NOT recognize Disney streets, any and all mail being sent to Disney through the US Post Office will go to the PO Box (regardless of how you address it) as the post office does not deliver to Disney directly. From the PO Box it is sorted into sections and then specific locations before it is delivered out to property. This can take quite a bit of time.

UPs, Fed Ex, DHL, any kind of courier service will deliver directly to the hotel. My suggestion would be to get the package ready and send it out about 7 days prior to your arrival (you can send it further out if you like they will hold it). If you give yourself enough time you can ship it ground service which is the cheapest.

As for who to address it to you would want to address it like this:

The name of the person who is the LEAD name on the reservation (may not be you, but it is easier to find that way)
C/O the hotel you are staying at/ Front Desk
The address of the hotel
And put HOLD for guest check in and the date (you can put the res # too if you want, but it is not really needed).

So it would look something like this

John Smith
C/O Disney's Wilderness Lodge Front Desk
Hold for guest arrival 4/02
901 Timberline Drive
Lake Buena Vista, Fl 32830

Here is a list of the resort address' (again this can ONLY be used for courier services, US Post office will not deliver to the property directly)

That's what we thought. Thanks for the info. We aren't sending much but better safe than sorry!

Ship your package so that it is there a couple of days before you are due to arrive. You address your package to your resort and then write on it Attention: your name and arrival date. Once you arrive at your resort advise them that you had a package sent ahead of time and they will have it delivered to your room. We have done this several times without a hitch. We have always used FedEx 2 day service as we have an account with them so it was easier for us. You might find that UPS has cheaper rates. I am not sure as we have never shipped UPS just received by them. But I like both as you can track your package from door to door.

If you are a frequent visitor to WDW, you might want to consider a new service called Owner's Locker that allows you to store personal items in Orlando rather than shipping things back and forth or throwing stuff away when you leave.

Owner's Locker provides you with a container in which you store your items; picks it up from your resort when you leave, stores it in a climate controlled warehouse and then has it waiting for you at your resort when you return.

We're a new company and a proud sponsor on The DIS--there's a link at the top of the page. There's been lots of discussion on the DVC forums but we're finding that there are more and more frequent resort visitors who are becoming Members.

This is a great thread. I have items I'd like to ship also. Do the resorts mind people doing this?

I have shipped to the Swan, Dolphin, and AKL using USPS. It was reasonable (about $25 for a fairly heavy box) and I had it arrive a couple of days before we did. Never had any problem. I shipped snacks and little treats, glow sticks, etc. So we just stopped for water, soy milk, and beer for the room, which made the grocery stop quicker for us.

I agree - you will save a bundle if you can pack it yourself! And the box looked a bit beat up one time, so pack well!

Owners locker sounds like a great option for those with DVC - you could store crock pots or stuff that you may use fairly often. If I could get DH to agree to the DVC I'd do that.

We use Owners Locker and have been so happy we tried it! We are DVC but can definitely see where it would be SO useful to have even for a regular hotel room. We recently traveled on business out of state, and DH kept saying "I wish there was an Owners Locker in St. Louis". (He also said it in Kansas City, Springfield, and Cape Girardieu ;) ). We even had a car on that trip and still had to run to Walgreens for allergy meds, shampoo and throat drops that we forgot. For stuff you use all the time, (particularly if you are going to be on a multi day trip), Owners Locker can't be beat for having all the comforts of "home" handy.
