Just wondering what our chances are of actually seeing any whales or dolphins using binoculars on our verandah? Thanks in advance for any tips.

No, but I did see a sting ray swimming along with the ship when we pulled out of port a few years ago.

Dolphins..yes. Last fall..september, western caribbean.

We also saw, sea turtle, manatees, flying fish, and others.

On one of our cruises we saw dolphins swimming in first of the ship as we sailed away from the Port C. docks. No whales, but lots of flying fish and sting rays.

Saw dolphins at Cape Canaveral in March this year, and flying fish and baby shark on route to St. Martin. Nat:Pinkbounc

Wow...binoculars. That's a great idea. I'm going to add that to our packing list.

We've only ever seen dolphins swimming and jumping alongside the ship pulling out of Port Canaveral. That was really neat!

The best place to spot them is in the wake of the ship at the terminal as it leaves Port Canaveral. The stirring of the bottom by the ship produces a dolphin feeding frenzy. You'll also see some stingrays as you clear the channnel as well. Never really saw a lot else in the way of sea life once we were out on the ocean.

Wow, sounds like our chances are pretty good for seeing a variety of sea life. We'll be sure to watch especially as we're leaving ports. Thanks for all the information and would love to hear any other stories - kids are fascinated (as are DH and myself!). :fish:

We saw dolphins escorting the Magic into Key West in Feburary 04. They were beautiful!

As we left Port C., we saw several sting rays and dolphins from our verandah. It was one of the highlights for my son.

In 38 cruises I haven't had too much luck spotting sea creatures from my verandah. I did see something once, but caught it just as it was going down so I don't know if it was a dolphin or whale. It was large!

I have better luck on Castaway Cay, where I've seen stingrays, a squid, and a nurse shark in the water with me at the adult beach.

Dolphins and flying fish on the Monday At Sea morning on the Western.

The Dolphins that you see pullingout of Cape Canaveral are
Audioanimotronic ;)

In all seriousness we saw them to one of the many highlights of the trip.

As we opened our curtains to begin our day at sea(3rd day of a 4 day cruise) on the Wonder, June 2004, the sea was alive with Dolphins. We sat on the veranda, for at least 10 minutes, and watched as they played. They then moved out of sight. It was very cool :D GOOD LUCK:D

We've seen dolphins several times...look for them as the ship leaves port as well as at sea!

My DH and I saw dolphins from our verandah on an at sea day on the Western. I know we weren't the only ones, as DRClaws and his wife DVCKathy reported seeing dolphins another day on that trip. It is truly a wonderful sight!

We had quite a few dolphins escorting the Magic in while we pulled into Key West on our January 04 cruise.
I'm spoiled as I get to see them almost everytime I go to the beach here in Naples. Last time they were playing right in front of us so close to shore, it was extrodinary to watch!

I was out relaxing on the verandah during our last cruise. My wife came running out saying she sees a whale. Got me all excited until i realized she was pointing at me. Wise guys, I tell you! lol
