Has anyone seen the move Moulin Rouge? I'm wondering if it's good.

:D ;) :p Okay. Moulin Rouge comes out on video/DVD tomorrow. I would like to state that even though I loved the movie it might not be for everyone. I liked it because it has beautiful costumes, I love Nicole Kidman, I love Ewan McGregor even more (

), it has a new, fun take on modern songs, they both have nice (not great) voices, they have lots of chemistry , and it's a fun movie. Did I mention I like Ewan? Okay, now for the other side of the coin. The first 20 minutes of the movie are frenetic, weird, and fast paced. It's a very campy movie. There's a weird scene involving Madonna's Like a Virgin.

If you like the movie, just remember I recommended it highly. If you don't like the movie, just remember that some weird chick from Dis-Con recommended it but you can't remember her name. ;)

Frank, Cider House Rules for Moulin Rouge. Don't forget. :)

ROTFL, Dayna! We all know you're a Moulin Rouge maniac! Are you up to 20 times yet??? :)

OK Dayna, I promise to give it a look-at, and not on a plane without earphones, K? I just fixed my DVD player (%$^&*!!), and I'll give it an unbiased review after I've seen it.

Barb, only a weirdo would have seen it 20 times. I've seen it 16. :D :p ;)

Steve, if you like it at all, you should try viewing it at least twice. The crazy beginning gets a little more sedate after repeated viewings.

John, thanks for the tip. Steve, I made a deal with Frank to watch it. I'll watch a movie that you love if you'll try Moulin Rouge. :D It can't be too violent though or I'll have nightmares. I'm very sensitive. Alan will send me packing to live with you and Bandie in Denver. :p I had nightmares for 3 months after The Green Mile. Good movie. Bad dreams.

Oh now I LOVED Cider House Rules and The Green Mile.......no nightmares for me.

I'll think about Moulin Rouge......but chances are, I'll be one saying that someone, I don't remember her, recommended it. ;)

OMG! I really really LOVED The Green Mile.....I think we'll have to watch that tonight. :)

Cider House Rules is what Frank wanted me to watch. I am going to, but I haven't yet. I liked the Green Mile, also. I'm just a wimp.

Dayna,

Moulin Rouge is on my list of things to do tonight. I'll give it a mini review tomorrow. I expect one for Cider House Rules by the weekend. And don't forget Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring, too. Subtitles only.

Frank

:D :D :D Dayna! Another "Moulin Rouge" fan here. Love the music, love the costumes (the rich reds and lush fabrics) , love the "effects" (the frenzied movements, the dark romantic overtones), and love Ewan. He's mesmerizing :)

Frank, I know. I know. :D I promise. I love subtitles. I'm a weird chick. What can I say?

OK Dayna, I just finished watching Moulin Rouge. That is one seriously ...um ...bizarre movie.

Right now, I'd guess it will rate in the range of 6 to 8. Now that I know what to expect, I should be able to pin it down with a second viewing, which won't be until this weekend at the earliest. (I'll be visiting Middle-earth tomorrow evening.)

Ball's in your court, Dayna. Moulin Rouge for Cider House Rules.:D

I'll agree that it's a little different. :D You must not have hated it if you are giving it a second viewing.

I told you that you might not like it, but I'm glad you're at least going to give it a second viewing. :p I'm hoping for an "8", but I'll take a "6." After you watch it the second time, we can talk about it. I'm sure you're looking forward to that.

I hope LOTR is everything that you are hoping it will be.

I will watch Cider House Rules. It has a happy ending, right? :p

Frank, one more post and you'll be a veteran. Whoo Hoo! Can you feel the excitement in the air?

Hugs,
Dayna

:rolleyes:I hate to be the one to break it to you, Dayna. Cider House Rules doesn't have a happy ending. It has an appropriate ending. One word of advice: keep a box of tissues handy. (Actually, that was more than one word. Sorry.)

Frank

OK Dayna. I'll trade ya Moulin Rouge for Dances With Wolves. That can't be so bad. After all, you get to see Kevin Costner (or his double) in his all-together. (Editorial comment from disneycub deleted by disneycub). :D

Steve, I actually watched Dances with Wolves for the very first time in November about a week before Dis-Con. Everyone was always aghast that I hadn't see it, and I rented it while Alan was out of town. :D

I haven't seen It's a Wonderful Life or Sling Blade or .....a million other movies.

I guess you'll have to pick something else.

My ex had to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" around 5 times during the holidays. It got to the point where I could recite the movie line for line, including "Everytime a bell rings an angel earns his wings." At that point, I was ready to scream. ;)

Updated for the 21st century:

"Every time a bell rings....it's probably a telemarketer on the line"

Never saw Dances with Woves, Cider House Rules, Moulin Rouge, Titanic, Slingblade, etc.
But, I've watched the movie Clueless about a thousand times!!!!!!!! That movie is a scream, and it has the sweetest ending. ::smoochie-smoochie:: I actually own the movie "That Thing You Do". I LOVE that one, too! Go figure. I am sooooooooo not deep.
I did read The Green Mile before I saw the movie. (I read a lot of Stephen King.) Excellent movie. But, I am a horror movie addict first and foremost. Then I want entertainment-no deep meanings, no analytical thought provoking types, and absolutely NO TEAR JERKERS! I can come up with a good cry just by being here at home! Don't need a movie to get me to cry! :)
Enjoy your movies. :D :D :D
LOL, John-ain't it the truth!!!! :)
Steve, my sister is a "Life" addict. She watches it over and over and over, too! Yikes!
