Has anyone seen a nutritionist?

A friend of mine went to a nutritionist to learn how to eat right, and learn the background of foods & what they do to/in your body. She lost 20 pounds in a couple months by following a plan the nutritionist gave her. She was probably only 135-ish to start & now she's a rail!

I'm considering going to one. I've done WW before, and lost considerably, but I still didn't have the knowledge behind the foods I was eating. I still don't understand the concepts of proteins and carbs & stuff like that (shamefully so).

Just wondering if anyone out there has gone to a nutritionist & how it went.

TIA! :wave2:

My dd's doctor told us to go to one for dd - he cholesterol was a bit high and it was a good appointment. By the time we went she had already lost 12 pounds. But ours talked about how to raise the HDL, how to exercise good and how much to do, helped estimate what her goal weight should be, and talked to us about the foods she should and shouldn't eat. It was a great appointment - I learned a lot. She needs to go for a follow up in a few weeks.

Thanks! That's what I was hoping. I'm going to make a call to my primary doctor to see who he recommends, and then I'm going.

I know it sounds crazy, but for me, I do better when someone tells me exactly what to do. Otherwise, there's too much room in there for "bending the rules" and that's where it all goes bad for me!

I just got my paperwork in the mail today from the nutritionist I'm going to see at the hospital. My doctor highly reccomends her so I'm excited about it. I'm not sure what my weight should be based on my height but I'm guessing I need to lose about 60-70 pounds.

I recently saw a nutritionist and found that it was very informational. She was able to spend time with me one-on-one and create a plan for me and my specific needs. I obtained a script from my primary care physican, but my insurance didn't cover the visit. I think the total cost was about $85 and totally worth it...it my opinion! :)
