switched??? We are planning on having our ceremony at the WP, but I am getting nervous about waiting 8 months out...

Has anyone called and booked an outdoor venue, just to switch at the 8 month mark???:rolleyes1

If so..

did you have to switch the time of your wedding?

was it a hassle?

do you recommend just waiting for the 8 month mark???:confused3

Well, my situation was a little different.

I originally booked Sunset Pointe at 5 months out...then about 45 days out we switched to Sea Breeze Point. We did change the time because we had the option and it worked out well for us. It wasn't a big deal but that could have been because it was just me and DH.

In your situation you should probably book what you want when you want it. If the day/time you want isn't available, think of your options...is there another time available the same day? Can you move it a day later and get the time you want? And, if you must have the exact day and time, what other locations are available? DFTW can tell you that when you call to book. You can call at 1 year out and they will let you know if there are others looking at your day/time and help you figure out your options.

You can switch! If they have your time available then you got it..if not then obviously you have to pick a different time.

Good luck,I hope you get what you want!

We switched from WP to SBP as soon as I got my Planner b/c we really wanted a better time. But, we did wait until the 8 month mark and had no problem getting the date, just the time. Which I blame partly on my sales coordinator, she was rude and not available when she said she would be. The moral of the story is..... they must have it set up this way for some reason and it seems to work ok.

There's no advantage to booking early and then switching at the 8 month mark because you don't get any kind of priority or preferential treatment for already being booked. You would still be entered into a lottery 8 months out if there were another couple who wanted the same date and time.

However, if you're just looking to start the process and get the paperwork out of the way before 8 months, then booking now and switching later could be the way to go. But it might be sad if you kept another couple from having the venue you don't really want....

I NEVER thought about this!!!! Good point! I would feel horrible if I prevented someone from getting their dream wedding! :guilty:

I guess I will just wait for the 8 month mark....it'll give me time to prepare for my PJ!!!

Thank you sooooo much everyone for your advice! This IS the best place ever!!!! (Well, besides WDW of course!):thumbsup2

The process as explained to us was different than what I'm reading here. We were told that there really is no 8-month mark. If you complete the agreement and pay the deposit, your date/time/venue is reserved regardless. We were 10 months out and told it was ours.

Thats interesting!... what are your locations (ceremony, reception) if you don't mind me asking??

It depends on your ceremony and reception locations. SeaBreeze Point can be contracted at 12 months, as can some reception locations, but many can't be contracted til 8 months out. In certain cases, Disney's hotel and convention department may be able to confirm space at locations sooner than 8 months out. But it varies so much that Disney uses the guaranteed date - 8 months - as the standard.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up.

we signed a contract at 12 months out and the moved reception locations at 8 months out with no problems
