Has anyone rented DVC points?

Hi all! Starting to budget for April 2004 trip. I see I can rent 4 days at BC for 14 points a night ($10 USF per point). $140 USF is reasonable to me. I am worried about handing money to a stranger. Has anyone here rented points? S

Hi Sandra I rented last year and loved it. I also was a little nervous about just sending money but everything worked out great. A portion was required to make the reservation and once that was recieved confirmation was mailed to me so I could verify my accomodations. The balance was due 30 days prior. I paid $9 a point though.

One more thing, BCV and BWV fill up fast so if this is something you are seriously considering you will need to book at the 11 month window, so May if you are going in April. We could not get what we wanted last year so we took OKW which was also very nice.

I have rented BWV points twice from two different US DVC owners. Both times I had great experiences. Once I made the initial down payment, I phoned the DVC member services line to confirm the reservation was in my name and had no problems. Once I sent a registered cheque in USD and the other time I was able to pay the person by VISA. Both times I go the points for $9 each...complete bargain for the amazing resort. My DD loved the pool and slide and my DS liked the playground and kiddie pool. I loved having a fridge for morning milk for cereal and drinks and fruit. If you know your dates, put out an inquiry right now on the DVC board and see what you get. Good Luck.

If you go to the FAQ in the DVC rent board, they probably have more details....I have always assumed that it would be my loss if I had to cancel, but you might be able to work something out with the member....best to ask up front.

We rented in Dec of 2001 as our papers had not been finalized yet for our DVC membership and it was great it saved us over a 1000 dollars on the cost of rooms and we stayed at both BWV and WLV very easy to do and seamless at check in just give them your name and res number

I have the opposite problem. I am a Canadian and I have rented points to American's and the trouble is getting the money orders from them. I asked for either certified cheque or money orders but because their banking systems are not exactly the same as ours, the renter found it a hassle. She had to go to the post office to get the money orders (make sure that they are international money orders--so they are cashable in Canada) etc and they were out of the international ones and the bank really gave her a hard time getting a certified cheque (called a cashiers check in the US). Eventually it all worked out though.

Post your request for points on the renters board or contact me directly at romandel@sympatico.ca and I can give you the address for the DVC renters board where you can also post a request for points. The rental point amount can vary from $9-10/pt so keep your eye out for a deal.

Depending on the time of year you want, the lead time varies. I posted points for rent in January and the renter contacted me with a Boardwalk request for the end of March that Disney was able to accomodate.

Good luck--you are right that renting points is much more economical.

Hi ~ thanks for your reply. I would love $9.00 a point at BCV April 2004. I have been reading the DVC boards and when I start seeing 2004 points available, I'll be thrilled! Is there tax on the $9.00 a point? THANKS! S

Sandra no tax is put on the points when rented so you have no hotel tax @11% so you do the calculation @ how long you wish to stay and the number of points per day for that resort then figure 10 dollars a point that is in US funds and 10 a point is cheap we rent ours for 12 to 15 a point another person I know gets upwards of 20 a point US. you can also find them on E Bay.

another option to look for points is through yahoo groups and it is called DVC Rent. They is usually a bunch of people with points to rent at all times. The good thing about DVC is that you do not have to own at a property to stay there.

When the people contacted me at the end of Jan they wanted Beach Club at the end of March and it was available and we booked that then they changed their mind as the slide at the pool was under repair at the time they were to be there so we agreed to a switch to BWV (actually a few less points) for the same time and it was also available so the kids could enjoy the slide at Boardwalk pool.
