I started it last night and just can't put it down! It is so good. I am trying to pace myself so I have something to read tomorrow while I get the brakes on my car fixed  It's really hard though.

I am always fascinated by the women in the Bible. Does anyone have any recommendations for other books about women in the Bible? Nothing preachy though.

I've read it! I liked it a lot. It was very different reading what a woman's POV may have been back then.

I've also read 2 Francine Rivers books that were very good and very short.
Unashamed and also Unafraid

There are 5, I think. All about women in the Bible. Much different that the Red Tent but I found the ones I read interesting!

Unveiled
Unspoken
Unshaken

I read it and loved it. GREAT book. I doubt if I would have been able to live in those times. There would have been a body count, lol.
Two you might enjoy are God a Biography and Christ A Crisis in the Life of God. Excellent books by Jack Miles.
The author is a former Jesuit and now lives in Southern CA with his wife and daughter.

No recommendations here, just wanted to add that The Red Tent was one of my favorite books!

I really enjoyed it. Very nontraditional view of the Biblical story, but a very interesting read.

Thanks for the book recommendations. I will have to check those out. I love reading about women in history and the Bible.

Lol Gail, I was telling my DH that if I had lived back then, I would have been killed by someone to shut me up.

Not necessarily non traditional, but, definitely one not mentioned too often. Remember, men, were the dominate gender.

Gotta love your style, Pooh Girl. :)

I read it and loved it. I passed it on to my best friend and she took a year to pick it up and finally read it!! She loved it, too.

I loved The Red Tent. In fact, I think I will read it again now that I have been reminded what a good book it is! I couldn't put it down either the first time I read it.

I loved it, too.

Did reading the book make you investigate Dinah's story as told in the Bible? It did me. Interesting to think that she COULD have been in love with someone her brothers disapproved of instead of raped.

That's an interesting question tar heel. I don't even recall hearing about Dinah before. From reading the book thus far, I really feel as if I need to go read the Bible again so I can figure out some things. I have had to go the family tree in the front many times so far :p

After reading this thread, I ordered it immediately. I love reading stories about women in the Bible. It's so interesting and it reminds you of how lucky we are to live nowadays.

My mother gave this one to me to read awhile back. I loved it. Have passed it on to other woman friends who have all loved it.
