Has anyone purchased a Rolex watch in St. Thomas?

My DH and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary while on the Eastern Cruise in June, and are planning on buying the 'new traditional' gift of watches for one another.

We visited the Rolex jeweler advertised in the Navigator when we were there in 2002, but were not prepared and wanted to wait for this cruise.

My husband is now a little skeptical. (Isn't that like many DH's? Though I can understand, especially when it comes to spending that amount.)

What are anyone else's thoughts or experiences on this?

I went into the rolex store in St. Thomas to see about buying one for DW just like mine. The store Mgr. saw mine on my wrist as I walked in. The price I recieved was no real deal. I get about 35% off from our local jewler and the price he gave me was around the same. I don't know about you but for 6% I would rather deal with someone local. JMHO

Since you're on the Eastern you will find far better prices for jewelry and watches in St. Maarten.

I didn't see a "Rolex" dealer in St. Maarteen.

Two stores had them...along with jewelry. We bought one after visiting both and picking the better deal (by only a few $$$). When we got to St. Thomas we were surprised at the (higher) price difference.

Sorry, don't have the name of the store as our Eastern was in January 2002. But the main draw of the store was an excellent variety of tanzanite rings...

My husband and I also purchased watches. We were going to wait until our second stop at St. Thomas, but we saw a pair we liked on St. Maarten and went ahead and got them....and we were very glad we did. our entire cruising party of 30, most of them jewelry hunting, all thought St. Maarten had muh better deals and the stores were just all around nicer. However we didn't end up with Rolexs, we got a Seiko and Citizen because they were more in our price range. I think we got them at Diamonds Int. although I'm not 100% on that. It was a store with a few branches on the street. I'd ask Clyde the shopping guy on board where the best place to get a Rolex is and then shop around a bit. good luck.

I just uneatrhed those port shopping guides they give you onboard (i save everything for scrapping). so granted these were the stores that paid the advertising, but the Rolex dealer listed for St. Maarten was Goldfinger Jewelry and on St. Thomas it's A.H. Riise Rolex. I'm sure there are more stores, but those were the ones the cruise ship "recommends" if that matters to you. hope this helps.

on a side note i bought the watches at Majesty Jewelers, not DI. They gave us a good discount because three of us lumped our stuff together.

Here is Majesty's website Majesty Jewelry

Don't know about Rolex (and they don't mention they sell them on the website). I got a beautiful ring from them of diamonds and australian opals. Majesty was recommened to me by a friend from work who really knows jewelry. She got a ring very similar to mine about two months later locally and paid over $200 more for it.

I would not hesitate to buy from them again.
