has anyone packed alcohol in suitcase before your flight?

I bubble wrap the bottle and put it in the 2 gallon zip lock bag, add socks or underoos in the bag - but still being able to close the bag

In checked bag - put in middle of suitcase and cushioned well

works like a charm every time

It happens...even being loaded onto the ship. Someone posted a couple months ago that their suitcase was ruined by someone else's broken bottles, which is why it is best to put those things in your carryon when boarding the ship.
Oh ugh I'd be so upset if our luggage and belongings inside were ruined with someone's alcohol.
I assume this is in relation to either before or after a cruise since this is posted in the cruise forum. PLEASE do not put alcohol in luggage you're going to let them handle getting on or off the ship. Both cruises we've been right there next to or across from one of the rooms they store luggage in when putting it on the ship or taking it off. You would be shocked if you see how they handle them. Chunking/tossing them is an understatement and they LITERALLY get piled up on one another all the way to the ceiling. (this last trip we had the entire bottom part broke off one of our large pieces of luggage and I'm surprised that's all the damage we had) I cannot imagine any alcohol, no matter how well packaged or protected inside the luggage, making it thru that type of abuse. Maybe it would be fine on the flight but definitely not with them handling it on or off the ship! (I've also seen those lifter things they fill up with luggage to tote it over to the ship to be taken off/on the ship- it's about a story high and the luggage is tossed in there- not gently placed on top of one another)

On our last cruise, I bought some vanilla (glass bottle) & honey... put them in a ziploc then into my tennis shoes.

We had a bag damaged beyond repair coming off the ship too. Literally - beyond repair. The repair shop sent a note to DCL saying that it couldn't be repaired. Part of the metal frame of the suitcase was bent about 3 inches into the main compartment. No idea how that happened as it was the side of the case. So it wasn't from being stacked. It looked like it had been slammed into a metal pole or something. And one of the wheels was completely torn off... like.. no where to be found torn off.

They're really not gentle with the luggage.

It might have been thrown up against a pole- those hauling machines (gosh i can't think of the word!) that they used to take it from where you check it in to the ship is all made of poles all the way around it- metal pole enclosure type thing on there- and they just throw them in. In no way stacked neatly that's for sure. And I was seriously SHOCKED the first time I saw them tossing the bags around in the room they put them in before taking them to our rooms or taking them off the ship. I know they are in a hurry so that is why but gosh I didn't know they'd be THAT rough with them! (ours had the wheel and half the leg thing that holds the wheel just completely broke off. But we're still going to use it- it's part of our mickey luggage sets! I'm not buying even MORE new luggage that might get damaged too. So DH gets to roll this big luggage with one wheel broke off. :rotfl:)

I almost always pack some liquor in our bags, I always make sure I put it in a large plastic bag (I have one that came with our suitcases, was meant for toiletries I think:lmao:)

I have found some vodka though that comes in a steel insulated bottle....very cool and that I didn't pack in anything, it was fine.
