Has anyone ordered prom or formal gowns from dessiny.com?

I am looking at the gorgeous dresses and great prices and wondering if anyone has bought a dress from this website. It is time to shop for my senior's prom dress! It would be nice to have a dress that nobody else has (if we ordered a custom color, anyway).

Actually the website says you can use a credit card, paypal, western union or bank transfers. It is based in Hong Kong, which explains the good pricing. That doesn't scare me. I do not see any reviews for the company when I search, though. This company also sells through Amazon where there are reviews that are pretty positive.

It only offers paypal on the checkout screen that I can see. And since paypal's buyer protection doesn't cover custom items, that's further cause for concern. If they do offer direct payments with credit cards, that protects you much better.

Amazon's reviews can't always be trusted.

By all means, order if you'd like. But I would absolutely be prepared to purchase a dress locally if the dress arrives and isn't as described.

As tempting as it looks, I wouldn't order from anywhere that the cost of a return would be so high (because I would only return something with tracking which can get pricey on an overseas shipment).

I bought my DD a semi formal dress on Ebay from one of the cheap overseas companies. It was only around $40. Even with correct measurements, it didn't fit right and couldn't be altered where needed. So I wrote it off as a lesson learned.

That's why I asked, so that I could see if anyone else had used this company before. I'm not going to order from there if it looks like it wouldn't be a good idea.

One of the amazon reviews showed an actual photo of a dress, but I guess that could be a fake review.

Hi Kelly I am looking at the same website for the same reason, and I was wondering if you did happen to order a dress from this website? If you could get back to me as soon as you can that'd be awesome!

I’ve seen tons of complaints about the myriad of Chinese companies in this business... buyer beware, and do not expect the online photos to resemble the dress you ultimately receive!

If the price is too good to be true, it probably is.

Most of the prom dresses you buy at David's Bridal (and similar) are also made overseas. The difference is they have quality control. So it costs more.

There's no way that they gowns they offer at David's Bridal which costs $300-400 can be purchased "somewhere else" for $40-50. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I've read too many horror stories.

My daughter always got hers locally where she could try them on and see how they fit on HER. She did shop the "sales" racks and "last year's" models. Never had to pay more than $150, and still got nice things.

Have you tried Lulu’s? Hey have some beautiful, reasonably priced dresses, and are reputable. My daughter has ordered several dresses there successfully.

I have scrutinized quite a few of these companies as DD is getting married in the spring and we don't have an unlimited amount of money for her wedding. What I learned is that most of these Chinese-based "companies" are actually clearing houses. They post photos of designer dresses from here in the US and say they'll make that dress. Turns out many of these places don't even have a factory/workshop. They put orders out to bid and hire the lowest interested party. What I've been told is that if I ordered several dresses from one of these places, there is no guarantee that they'd even be made by the same factory, much less of the quality or style in the photos. No way I'd take that kind of a chance on a dress for an important occasion, especially as if it IS wrong, how are you going to replace it? You need to buy another dress or pay for alterations, probably at the last moment, and you usually cannot get these companies to refund your money (and custom dresses aren't returnable/refundable, no matter how they fit). Let's face it... If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. (We ended up ordering through Azazie. They have a "try-on" program where for $10, including shipping both ways, you can order the dress you are interested in and try it on at home. Dresses have been of consistently high quality, well-made, pretty much true-to-size... and I bet we've tried on about 15 dresses between myself and the bridesmaids.)

do u have a dillards clearance storeoutlet? ? they were just running their b1b2 free o n all formalwear

I would not order from that website.

There are facebook groups dedicated to prom and other formal wear resell. Have you tried locating one of those facebook groups?

My local facebook page, mom's are always posting resell of formal dresses for a fraction of the price they paid. I have sold a couple of my own DD's formal dresses.

I typed in Prom Resale in Facebook and several pages came up.

Around here at prom time when you purchase your gown the stores keep a list of who buys what so you don’t duplicate. Also I know at school they make up a page where you post your gown. I remember thinking two years ago girls will wind up duplicating but they didn’t at all.

Lulus is very popular here for 6th, 8th, and sweet 16 dresses. Free shipping and return, I’ve ordered dozens. Quality is usually pretty good but we did have a malfunction at a 6th grade dance, and they wouldn’t let me return it because it was worn for 4 hours.

There are also pages here. When Dd bought her dress last weekend at a huge store an hour away, her friend was worried that the dress she chose was too similar to some dresses already posted. Her stylist took her phone and scrolled through, apparently tbey are used to doing that, and reassured her the dress was fine.

Nope, we ended up getting one for less than $100 at Penneys.

Just a word of advice for all prom mommies, CUT THOSE DARN HANGER TIES OFF THE DRESS! It caused a horrible wardrobe malfunction for my daughter last year. There were ties/ribbon attached right at the peaks of the top of the sweetheart neckline of her dress (above each breast) and they were peeking out in half of the photos. I didn't go to the park for pics so I wasn't there to manage them. UGHHHHH. Thankfully in the other half of the pics they are tucked in or her hair is covering them. Awful. Not worth the ability to hang the darn dress up afterwards. IMG_4070.PNG
