Has anyone ordered a gluten free cake?

To make a long story short, I have been tested for Celiacs and was negative. But based upon my symptoms, my GI physician said just to steer clear of gluten because it sounds like I have a huge sensitivity to it.

Anyways, we are going to Disney in September and we will be having dinner at Flying Fish Cafe on my birthday (which I am VERY excited about!) and we wanted to order a birthday cake. I can eat dairy, so I don't want a vegan cake (and my parents really don't even want a gluten free cake :( )

Has anyone ever ordered a gluten free cake from BW Bakery? Not vegan, just a normal celebration cake but gluten free? Someone on the cake forum posted about ordering one and said it was inedible, but I would really like to see if there are other opinions on here.

Thank you!! :)

I have not ordered a gluten free cake yet, so I am sorry that I can not answer you on that. I have one of the cookbooks from the lady that runs Babycakes (I can't remember the new name) that is located in Downtown Disney, and we really enjoy the cake recipes from there.

In general, I have found that cake is one of the most forgiving things in a gluten free diet. While our bread may never be quite the same, I have had many gluten eating people in my life say that my cakes are better than a normal one. Even people who have sneered at a gluten free cake have came back for seconds after my husband "bullies" them into trying it. Because I can't have dairy, my cakes are regularly dairy free, which I really don't think makes any noticeable difference, but with the vegan variety not having eggs, I am not sure how that would be.

If it were me, I wouldn't tell me parents that the cake was gluten free. There may not be a way around it, but I am mean that way. Haha. My guess is that they wouldn't know the difference.

I would highly recommend ordering from Eren McKenna's Bakery (formerly Babycakes). No one will know it's gluten free, except that may be a bit more moist and dense, but not in a bad way. My favorite when they combine their chocolate with mocha. Yum! Seriously, they are good and beautiful and you can order to be delivered on property.

I completely agree! GiGi's Cupcakes (a chain cupcake bakery) has gluten a few of their flavors available in gluten free plus they also have a flourless chocolate torte cupcake. I picked up a gluten free cupcake plus the flourless and my mom ordered a few non-gluten free cupcakes. She tasted a bit of mine and couldn't believe it was gluten free. She said it was much more moist than the cupcakes that did contain gluten. And the chocolate gluten free cakes always seem to have a similar consistency to brownies, which I love!! I just need to convince my dad that gluten free cakes are good! ;)

I do think they are much more moist- which I prefer! Chocolate & mocha? Yum! There's a local bakery around here that hash chocolate/mint cupcakes and chocolate/mocha cupcakes - I was in LOVE with them and craved them all the time. They are seriously the best cupcakes i've ever had! But then I found out i'm intolerant to gluten so goodbye to those yummy cupcakes. Maybe Erin McKenna's will taste similar!

If you order a cake from Erin McKenna just be aware that they aren't able to place any Disney decorations on it but the BW bakery can. We had a gluten free and vegan cake from the Grand Floridian bakery and it was very good. I normally hate any gf cakes.

I would recommend Erin McKenna's over a Disney cake. I ordered an allergy-friendly cake for delivery at California Grill (from what I understand the allergy-friendly stuff is same). It wasn't worth the cost. DH and I both agreed that I make better cake.

In the past, I also ordered a specialty cake from Babycakes. It was much better than the Disney cake.
