Has anyone on points ever been upgraded?

I was just curious if anyone using points had ever been upgraded to a larger room than what they booked. Say you booked a Studio, and when you check in they offer you a 1 BR. I know it has never been offered to us, but was just wondering.

My only experience at an "upgrade" was having a "standard view" room at the BWV and upon checking in and being given a "preferred view" room.

About 6 months ago, someone reported being upgraded from (IIRC) a 1B at BWV to a GRAND VILLA!!!

I have only seen it reported once where someone got a room size larger than the one they rented when they checked it. There had to be a really big problem behind the scenes, unknown to the member, for this to happen. Perhaps they over-booked or something happen really bad to the room they had coming before they got there and there just was none available their size. At any rate DVC to the best of my knowledge does not upgrade. When I reserved a 2 bedroom condo-off campus. non DVC and non Disney, they gave me a 3 bedroom because they had one available when I checked in. There usually is more to it than that also, I suspect, it may have been planned to do it because they had more reservations for 2 bedrooms than they had and less for 3 bedrooms. Just a guess but a good one, I bet. I think the stucture of points, and membership. would not allow this. Changing a room with a view from one to another at BWV would not fall into this situation, room size only.

We had an upgrade (on points) from a studio to a 1 BR at BWV last year.

We had arrived mid morning but it ended up being about 4:15 before we could check in. (This was unusual, we are almost always check in by noon.)

When we finally were able to check in, they told us we had been upgraded to a 1 BR.

When we got to our room, it was the next to last room down the hall. Looong walk! I figured maybe they had assigned someone to the room and they complained about the location. It was fine with me, I'll take that walk for a 1 BR over a studio anytime.

Both stays before that we had been upgraded from standard to preferred view.

We never specify anything other than non smoking; we don't care what location or view we have.

I will not take the bait, good try. It must be the Irish in you that causes you to try these things. Upgraded from OKW to BWV--very good

It can happen but not by the guest making a request. Usually as stated there is a problem and the upgrade is due to the that. There would be no reason for Disney to share this info to the guest therefore many don't know the reason for the upgrade.

At times it can be a problem of overbooking a certain class of units such as studios, or a maintenance problem removes a unit from inventory.

When I was at WDW in April, I was waiting to get my DVC pin in AK and had a very nice conversation with a woman who was staying at the BWV and when she checked in they offered her a grand villa (she was originally scheduled for a 2 bdrm).

It does happen even if so seldom!

In January we were upgraded to a 1br at BWV. When we checked in the cm said, "oh, I see you have an upgrade" when I asked to what, she said "what did you originally have booked?" to which I replied, " a preferred studio". She then said, "well then you've been upgraded to a 1BR." It was very much a surprise. I have since wondered if it was because we set up our tour for dvc (we were staying on rented points) before we left for home, so they knew we were considering it. Just a thought.

We tried to get upgraded to the GV for one more night. We were in a GV all week, but due to points and friends vacationing with us home not at OKW, we moved out to three studios on our last night. We called to see if we could just stay at the GV for the last night since we found out it would not be occupied that night and it would save three extra cleanings with the three studios the next day. They would have done it, but would have taken the points for the GV along with it. Did not want to use the extra points because we were saving for this year's trip. We gave it a good try, but no one would do it for us and they left the GV unoccupied that night.

We stayed at Boardwalk last year and had a studio booked and when we checked in because of work being done we got a one bedroom. A great surprise!

Just got back from 4 days at HHI with the sole purpose of spending a quiet time with another couple in a 2BR. We are OKW/BCV owners and had not been back to HHI since the first week it opened but had sent my folks there several times.

Upon checking in the desk clerk informed me that we were upgraded to a Grand Villa for our stay. What a surprise! The other couple had never been to DVC and only once to WDW so they were clueless about how things work. Needless to say we spent a lot of time discussing DVC.

The staff at HHI was awesome and the stay was very delightful and fit the bill for the relaxation that we all needed.

A year ago we were upgraded from a standard view studio to a 1 br preferred at BWV. It was an awesome room too - ground floor next to the quiet pool. We spent a lot of time in the hot tub that week.

So far my only upgrade has been to a preferred view room at BWV when I'd booked a standard view room. Nice surprise at the desk, and I really enjoyed the room.

I am so surprised about all of these responses. I just assumed no one ever got upgraded. It sure would be nice if something like that happened to us, but since we are going in 3 weeks, I kinda doubt it.

We did once. We reserved two studios with a standard view but my mom's room was right on the boardwalk.

I can't remember all the circumstances but the rooms became available at different times. We were shocked to realize her room location. It was fun but I can't see actually using the points to book a bw view.
