of negative feedback Disney is getting on these boards lately? Is it me or am I just picking them out?

Since I've been here there seems to be a lot more than usual. I can't help but wonder if the quality is in fact taking a turn for the worst. I certainly hope not though.

I wouldn't mind the griping so much if alot of it wasn't for really minor things. lately there have been a lot of "ruined" vacations because of:

No towel animals left by housekeeping.
Its packed in the parks during the summer. :confused3
Can't get a sit down meal without an ADR.
didn't get anything for a birthday/anniversay or fill in the blank.
Disney raised their prices.

Just seems like a lot of whining going on. I saw on world news tonight where a pastor of a church has declared in "no more complaining" month in his congregations because evidently it had gotten out of control. he was the person of the week.

Maybe it's seasonal. I remember last year at this time (before our first trip to WDW), there were all kinds of complaints all over the boards. I let it worry me too much, because when we actually got to WDW, everything went wonderfully!

Beyond that possible seasonality (related to many, many more people being at WDW, most likely), I see at least two additional factors:

1) DISsers are pretty obsessive about Disney (and I include myself in that). It's easy for people like us to build things up so much before-hand that it's impossible that the reality will live up to how we've imagined it being, and
2) People in general love to complain, for a variety of reasons.

The towel animals is always a good one to laugh at. We were there 9 days last year, and not one. Although, I didn't know what they were and honestly could care less if we received one.

I had to listen to my father yesterday gripe about the prices and he hasn't been to WDW since 1998! People just like to complain I guess. I just booked a 9 night trip, hotel, tickets, food for under 3k (POR). My parents just dropped $5k on a 6 night trip to Atlantis to lay around. I don't find the prices all that different from many of the other popular vacation spots.

disney changed their policies alot.

change is a very active thing at Disney.

some people hate change. So when Disney changed the way they did weekends (a higher price). or that they now won't pay the tip on DDP - well there will be complaints.

Well tell you shortly about All Stars Sports.

A lot of people are understandably upset by the price increases. Not such a good deal for them anymore. Cest la vie.

Some also believe that WDW is offering substandard product for an inflated price. If that's true the boom will not continue.

Exactly.

I think the time is coming where Disney is going to have to either lower their prices or step up to the plate and make good on the prices they are charging.

Personally, I hope they step up and offer the experience that they once did.

Yes, there seems to be an excessive amount of whining and complaining going on. I don't let the negativity bother me. I always have a great time at WDW and plan to continue to do so. :cool1:

I know for my last two visits (Dec '06 and Apr '07), the quality was quite high for what I recieved. My only dissenting opinion of quality/inflated prices is due to my experience on DCL but that's a post for another board. Personally quality at Disney hasn't decreased for me. I've had wonderful service at the resorts, great experiences in the parks and restaurant service that was absoutely excellent. My only complaint was from certain guests who didn't understand the concept of common courtesy but I digress...

My trip this week will let me know personally if quality has declined. :thumbsup2

I noticed a lot of negativity as well. Also, look at the post counts on most of them, seems like a lot of them are new members to the DIS or at least it seems that way to me.

These boards have become so negative that I have decided to only drop by every few days.

I also STRONGLY believe you make your own magic. If you go to Disney or anyplace whining and looking for flaws you will find them, if you go looking for magic and prepared to have a good time no matter what you will.....

Amen to Making your own magic......DH and I love to go. And we just booked our 3rd to WDW for the end of November first part of December. We are staying at all-star sports we don't mind. We are only there to sleep, and get cleaned up and get ready for the next day and of course the air conditioning....LOL Yes it might be irritating if your bed wasn't made or your got short sheeted but no big deal we are just happy to be there and enjoy our trip. My saying don't sweat the small stuff. Let the magic begin......

Absolutely. :thumbsup2

It's like they say in sales:

"A satisfied customer tells 10 friends, a dissatisfied customer tells everyone."

For every one person you hear complaining about something, there are probably a few dozen who had an amazing time. Reading the negative threads can let you know if stuff that will influence your stay is going on (like AK Lodge closing, Haunted Mansion, price changes), but you shouldn't let them make your decisions for you!

When we went in 2003, we were very disappointed in Disney...we felt the Magic had "disappeared." Cast members never smiled or were outright rude; guests were screaming at kids; the service was under par for what we had become accustomed to with Disney. However, we have been back twice since then and we felt the magic had returned. The CM's were friendly, playful, smiling. Service was terrific. It just seemed everyone was just more relaxed and having a good time.

I noticed alot of complaints last summer and through the free dining period. However when we went in November it was just perfect. I am wondering if increased crowds are causeing the decreased satisfaction. Just a thought. Maybe avoid the high crowds and see if it makes a difference. I truely have had only 2 complaints in all of my visits over the years. A pretty good ratio if you ask me.

It's getting much more difficult to avoid high crowds since the marketing has been so effective as to virtually eliminate slow seasons. I guess that's good for business though

We couldn't have said it better ourselves :thumbsup2

Yes, and "making our own magic" last trip meant making our own beds for three days because Mousekeeping at CSR couldn't manage to service our room for three days (yes, we called to inform them). On day 3 we had to beg for towels (no, not towel animals).

I adore WDW, but there are some very legitimate issues with a decline in some areas lately.

I just wonder how many that are complaining, either contacted someone while on their trip to share thier concerns, or have emailed Disney to let them know their opinions.

Nothing posted here is going to change anything.
