Has anyone moved to Florida and now regrets it?

We've been thinking about moving to Floirda for a couple years. Now a lot of family and friends are moving there and it just seems like the right thing to do, I just don't want to regret it later.

We are thinking about Lakeland. I'm going to school right now to become a pastor and they have a good Christian school down there. I've lived in the same place my ENTIRE life. I'm not one that is up to a lot of change, but this just seems like it could be a good change.

Tell me what you like best about it there, least about it

If you would do it again

I don't have kids yet so I figure that if I want to move, now would be the time, but is FL best for me?

Are you prone to burn? I do not live there, but I really wanted to until last week when I went to WDW. I liked what I saw of Lakeland- some older people playing bingo at the MCDonalds was quaint- I mean it. The driving is slower and the humidity was not fun, but better than last June. I just decided I didn't like the heat. But if you lived there you would probably get used to it, and it may not feel so hot as when walking around the concrete jungle of WDW. I like more defined seasons. BTW Celebration creeped me out so I would not move there! They plopped the midwest down in the middle of Fla! It did not seem to fit. If heat does not bother you and you don't like winter I think Lakeland looked as good a place as any to live and housing prices seemed pretty fair, reasonable even as I was expecting them to be astronomical being situated close to Orlando and Tampa! Oh and most important- maybe you get used to this too, but the water tasted BAD- lots of Sulfur. I got to the point where I would only drink bottled.

We seriously looked into it for 3 years. Just went to visit private schools. Were not happy with the public schools, low spending per student plus no tax base to support infrastructure. Lots and lots of traffic. Higher crime. Very congested, strip mall after strip mall. Houses on top of one another. These were our major reasons for not wanting to move.

People are very nice, warm weather, private schools were wonderful -- if we could afford them. These were our reasons to move. oh and close to Disney.

Dh and I lived in Leesburg for a total of...... 6 weeks! LOL It was a nice town, but dh wasn't happy with the job he had been transferred for and it just wasn't for us. We really prefer the changing of the seasons. Oh, and the water there is just Gross!
Would love to have a vacation home there though. :teeth:

I moved to Orlando in Oct 2000 and stayed there for 2 years..I loved working for Disney and being around the magic all the time. The heat was rough and the lack of the change of seasons really stunk for me.

The thing that killed me the most was I had no family around. Im a family man and I missed having them around.

Mostly though I Loved it.

Jungle Josh

I lived in south FL for 15 years. Just left last month. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc A few years ago I thought about moving to the Lakeland area. A few people told me that area is A LOT different from the rest of FL. Kind of "backwards" there...to quote them.

The reason for Lakeland is that is where Southeastern University is. We have no special fondness for this particular city, just the school. I have to tell you though, everytime I'm in Orlando I just feel full of life. The city is FULL OF LIFE! There is SOOO much to do everywhere. It just makes you want to roll down the window of your car and yell for joy while traveling down the lit up, festive streets. :flower:

I live in Milwaukee, and I feel as if there is NO LIFE ANYWHERE!! We go to the same places, and do the same things constantly. If we want to do something new, we pack up and leave town.
