Ive had it installed and loved it but was wondering how hard it is to install it ourselves?

My friend, who happens to work at a flooring place, said he can do it and he knows we can do it. He isnt the type to install things ( LOL his words not mine ;) ) We found one that we really like for the kitchen but Im wondering if its something that I would be way in over my head with.

Ideas?

Thanks :)

Soooo easy! Time consuming, but easy. We did our kitchen, dining room, living room, utility room, and hallway.

First you need to measure how much you will need by measuring your rooms and accounting for the entryways. Add an extra 10% for waste boards (once you cut a board, it typically can't be used again). You'll need a table saw or band saw to cut the boards and some other tools like spacers, knee pads, etc. At the most you'll spend $30 on those random pieces. The saws are obviously more expensive so if you don't have one, rent one or borrow.

Anyway, so the process is easy. Lay the underflooring (pad) and then start at the wall and start laying the boards. They lock together so it's really idiot-proof. It's definitely helpful to have someone around who has done it before. Start asking around now! :)

Overall, we are super pleased we did it ourselves. I think it took a total of 12 hours to do about 600 sq ft. Let me know if you have any more questions!

We are going to put a pergo type flooring down in our kitchen and bathroom soon. A friend is installing it for us. Still waiting for DH to help me paint before we have the floor put in. No doubt the wait will be much longer.

Do you know if pergo holds up better against dog claws then real hardwood floors? Our lab has done a number on our hardwood and we were thinking about replacing it with pergo. Thanks.

I would advise against the "do it yourself" if you are getting the cheaper non-Pergo laminate. Hubby and I tried it and it came out BAD BAD BAD!!!

I have seen the cheaper stuff installed even by a pro and the seams (the horizontal ones) seem to rise up where the two boards meet. Just looks bad.

So... if you are getting it, get the good stuff!!! That may install better.

Yes! Much, much better. It's virtually indesctructable. We have a dog and cat and have had no problems at all. Our dog slides every time she runs, but that's another story. :)

Also, we put in another brand other than Pergo that was a bit cheaper and it was easy to install and looks great. There are some that you glue, but ours were interlocking. You can't screw it up. It's super simple.

well yeah.... I loved my old floors you know that!

I went in to see Jeff at the Carpet place and he said " What colour did you get last time?" I said " Golden retreiver red" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
he thought it was hilarious!
I told him I took all the samples and held them up against our dog and found the one that most matched her coat. Hey it worked! Hardly noticed the shedding :rotfl:

Yeah were getting the good stuff, Pergo is actually not the best brand out there. I am getting the Bruce that is rated for kitchens and bathrooms, thats why I want to do it myself so I can get the good stuff LOL :thumbsup2 .
