Has anyone here used Direct Buy?

I'm looking for opinions about Direct Buy. We need to furnish a condo and wonder if this is the way to go? I'm just beginning to look into it and really don't know much about it yet. I'm wondering if anyone has any info to share. Evidently there is a membership fee and then you can buy at a discount. They sell everything from hot tubs to sofas.

First let me say- hello sister!
1. You must have reason I had use Muffycat as my screen name
2. We are buying furniture also and it's been a pain in the neck
3. My girlfriend gave me a DirectBuy ad yesterday.

My co-worker paid membership to DirectBuy, she said it was expensive and didn't find it worth the money. You are selected to a list of manufactures/stores to buy from. She warnd me against it.

Good Luck!

We are in the process of building our new home right now, and we are
DirectBuy members for that reason. The membership is expensive, intially
around $3995 for the first 3 years, then a few hundred bucks a year after that. Once you get past that though, the potential savings are huge.
We priced out our entire kitchen (floor, cabinets, countertops, applicances,
etc.) with our builder and the estimate was around $17,000. The same
products through DirectBuy will only cost us around $8,500. So we'll make
our initial investment back just in our kitchen.
For us, it is worth it.

Wow! Thanks, MUFFYCAT (love your name). That is exactly what I worried about. There is a direct buy store in Orlando but I do worry about finding the right type of furniture and variety, etc.

Any other opinions?

Do you know if you can join for 1 year instead of a 3 year membership? That is a very impressive savings you experienced. Thanks for the info!

I don't know if this is true, as I've never been. But I remember reading here I believe, that if you go, you need to decide right then if you are joining. No leaving & thinking it over.

Try searching the DIS. I know they've been discussed here before.

Good luck.
