someone i was talking to today had told me that unless you had written permission from schools to take you children out the airlines won't let you board:earseek:

i myself can't see this being the case surely that would be too much extra work for the staff at airports, also do the staff at airports really care if you have taken your kids out of school? i doubt it very much:rolleyes:

anyone heard of this?

I haven't heard of it, and I can't see how it's enforcable. Given that there are a number of different holiday times for different areas and there are now a number of school areas that have gone to "even terms and breaks" (i.e. less summer hols and more the rest of the year) unless the airlines have notes on every school in the country how can they possibly check.

That doesn't mean I don't think this government is beyond trying to impose such an idea. With coming up to 700 NEW criminal offences they've managed to put on the statutes in their time in power they need to become imaginative if they are going to keep up their strike rate. George Orwell was only about 20 years out

i wouldn't put anything past the government either:rolleyes:

i must say i do feel a little bit silly now after reading your post:o perhaps i just shouldn't take notice of people when they say things like this::yes::

I wouldn't put it past the government to try and implement it, but to perfectly honest I doubt the airlines would have the staffing levels to cope. I always get permission to take Jack out of school and have planned next years trip to coincide with the end of SATs, half term and his birthday. As they do very little work after SATs I didn't feel guilty.

jane and feistyblue

after posting this i told my dh when he came in from work and his responce was,how on earth would the the staff be able to do this and who do they think they are!

needless to say i now feel so silly for listerning to this woman and posting it here:o

i'm not too worried about taking my youngest jack out of school,he did his stats june just gone i'm more inclined to worry about the eldest he goes into year 8 in september, altough i'd already spoken to his headmaster in june and he said if charlie does a trip report it would benefit the school and that he would therefore give us permission

Hi Eve

Most probably the woman who told you this was perhaps a little teensy bit jealous ::yes::

Make sure you show her your pictures on your return!!! :hyper:

yeah i could but then i might be evicted lol,she was from my housing association replacing my lock on the street door ::yes::

now i feel i need to explain :teeth: my oldest son was out playing on friday and had his little gym bag stolen while was playing football it had his mobile phone and door keys in it,now we have an office on our estate where they run things, and she had come over to replace the barrel from the old lock and put a new barrel in so whilst doing this she was talking about the kids and holidays and this is when she told me about this

the moral of this story is to take no notice what so ever of gossip lol,my dh tells me all women are:crazy: and that this confirms it::yes::

thanks for listerning to me be a crazy woman:teeth:

eve::MinnieMo

I don't think you're a crazy woman lol

It's very easy to doubt things when you are told them!

The flaw in her story would be.....even if it was illegal to take your children out of school for a holiday : a) how would they know whether your child was state or privately educated? and b) you could always say your child was home educated and therefore the "rule" wouldn't apply!

 fiestyblue

i told my dh,that you do end up convincing yourself when you are told things like this::yes:: well us mad 'women' as he calls it need to defend ourselfs, lol

UKTigger - we have taken Jack from school on a number of accasions. The first being to Florida in 2000 (He was 6) and the headteacher asked him to do a scrapbook - even providing the scrapbook for him. It was a bit of a hassle getting him to write a little bit in it every day, but he did and now he has a reminder too. Next we took him out ofr 3 weeks (my fault as I miscalculated the half term) and took him to Australia. Well he certainly had to do a trip report book thi stime and he made a very good job of it, he also went to school down there for 3 days with our friends girls and had a whale of a time. The headteacher said that he woul dlearn far more down in Australia in 3 weeks then they could teach him at school. How many kids can say they have swum on the GReat Barrier Reef at the age of 7. I just say take them out, so long as you have permission and enjoy yourselves.
