Wow, Punta Gorda got slammed and so did Orlando. I hear & see reports on TV of much destruction.
They said Kissimee (I can never spell that right) had ALOT of damage, so I can only assume that Disney World did too.
Just wondering if anyone has heard about the damage there and at FW esp.

I just got up and that was my first thought. My thoughts are with the people of Fl.

I'm anxious to find out how FW made it through, also. We are often there this time of year. I hope everyone made it to safety and the damage wasn't too bad.

We were there last year at this time with a hurricane off the coast and there was flooding in FW, I can only imagine what happened during this storm. I hope everyone was evacuated safely. My prayers are with all of you down there.

We are so curious to know how the campground faired. We were thinking of all our fellow campers yesterday. Hope everyone made it through okay.

I read on another thread that they evacuated FW and put those folks up in other resort hotels. WTG Disney!!!! Always doing the right thing for your Guests!!!!!:Pinkbounc

I was just watching Fox news and they showed a picture of the Contemporary and said there was some damage at DW. I looked and looked at the picture, but I couldn't see it.

Has anyone tried to call FW directly? I know the number is usually on the back of a reservation confirmation but I dont' have one right now.

.

I read in another forum that FW is not opened back up yet, can anyone confirm this?
I wonder what kind of damage has been done bu this storm........We are due to check in next Sunday, 8/22. I hope all is well there, and not to much damage.:(

Ok, I just read on community board that FW will reopen Monday, 8/16 at the earliest.
This is coming from someone at POR. She said that there are many people there that were evacuated from FW.
I wonder how much damage there is, if they reopen tomorrow, then maybe its not to bad. I would imagine that there would trees down.
I hope all is well, and they can start camping again!:D

Edited to add:

Reports on another forum say, "The the crew @ FW is working hard to clear debri from the storm. There are many tall trees in this resort, and branches and fallen trees must be removed for the safty of FW guest."

Just read on my update page from WDW that Fort wilderness remains closed. No specifics on why.....

Hope there was not too much damage as we are going in Sept.

My dh has a cousin that works at WDW and is an "in charge" person dealing with the landscaping. He emailed us today and said there was ALOT of damage to FW and they have a LOT of work to do. Nothing specific but I dont think he really even had the time to answere us so I am glad he at least let us know this much

Thank you Sheila,

I am really hoping that things are up and running by this time next week...........:(

I just called the front desk @ FW. The CM said that they will reopen today, and everything is fine.:sunny:
I'm so happy:hyper: We leave this thursday, and we wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere but there................:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Good to know!! We're not going to be there til Dec but I would hate to think that this resort received a lot of damage. :(

chunnice,
What "update page" from Disney World are you talking about?? Do you mean that pop up that showed up the other day when I checked out disneyworld.com??

We were there -- we had to leave FW by 9am on Fri, relocated at the French Quarter. Parks closed Fri by 1pm so we did not get to go see much on Fri except Port Orleans. They did let us back onto FW on Mon after 12 noon. They do have lots of limbs down and some trees were down, lots and lots of water. Over all the FW crews did a great job of getting everything put back together in a short amount of time. We were glad to get back to the fort!

AK, all water parks and pools were closed on Sat but everything else was open. So it was very crowded, but we had a good time.

We did have a power outage (about 10 loops) at the Fort BEFORE Charly (Mon or Tues night). We came home from the parks and everything was out. They were not worried about us at that time because there was a problem with the Contemporary (they had a roof leak/failure). We did have the electric back on in a very short time.

I will get around to a trip report, I am just still in the process of putting everything away.

Glad to hear you made it throught the storm okay. We have been wondering how FW faired. Thanks for posting and glad you had a safe trip.

Fort wilderness weathered the storm just fine. Everyone was evacuated for several days, but the campground reopened on Monday 8/16. There were a lot of trees down and more swampy areas than usual but none of cabins were damaged. We saw some decks being worked on. There was one cabin with a tree on it but the CM we spoke too said that the cabin was not damaged. My daughter and I watched six dump trucks full of tree limbs heading out of the camp grounds and there was a huge pile of rubble but it disappeared quickly. They were still working on picking up tree branches when we left Thursday 8/19. When we had evacuated we only took two days worth of clothes with us. CMs packed up everything in our cabin
( Including a handful of change and food) and had it sent over to Port Orleans and then transfered it back to the cabins a day later! Many people worked 31 hours straight to get things up and running as quickly as possible. It was confusing but they did a great job in my opinion. We only lost a half a day of our vacation. I could have skipped the new thrill ride ( Hurricane Charley) I just sat in the room Friday night watching Disney movies. My husband loved it. He watched the whole storm. It was a dream come true for him.::MinnieMo

I'm still curious. If they make you evacuate FW, what do you do with your camper and what happens if you have pets? There can't be enough space in the kennels for all of the pets that are vacationing at FW. Do they make you pull your camper out and if so where do they have you put it? We are going in October and that is still huricane season so I'm already worrying.

They made all the rv's move to the Port Orleans parking lot. It looked like a trailer park! I believe if you had pets they used the kennels located at the theme parks but I'm not positive.
