Has anyone had cnd shellac manicure done

Does anyone know of any "regular" nail polish remover (something I can buy at the local store) that takes this stuff off? I don't want to have to go back in and pay for the removal.

you'll have to soak them off in pure acetone

You can get the pure acetone remover at any beauty supply...I got my bottle at Sally Beauty.

For those of you who can't afford this, there is a product I use that works great. It is called Seche Vite, you can buy it at CVS and Sally's. It is a little pricey ($7.99 or so), but I can usually go a week or more with no chips. It dries very quickly.

I'm glad this stuff works for you, but it was a horrible disappointment to me. It dried hazy, not clear, and developed cracks quickly (I used it twice, once with a cheap topcoat on the other hand for comparison because I couldn't believe it was really that bad, and it was!)

Does it dry under an UV light?? I've been reading dermatologist reports that the exposure to UV light with the gel nails is causing skin cancers on the backs of womens hands.

I wonder if you could put sunscreen on your hands before your appointment.

I would that, and more. I swear I got age spots early from getting the gel nails UV'd on in college.

Did you put it on while your nails were still wet?

only the tips of your fingers are under the light and the total exposure time is under 5 mins. The light is a 36 watt total, so you are getting a minimal exposure at best. Your entire hand doesn't fit in the light box, mine was barely up to my first knuckle. There is no reason why you couldn't put sunscreen on prior if you feel it is necessary.

No, I actually did it the day after I applied color. Are you supposed to put it on wet nails?

It's the Seche Vite fast dry top coat right? Yeah you are supposed to put it on your nails while still wet. I will paint a hand and then immediately put top coat on that hand. Then do the other hand. You might want to try that, because I think that would make a difference.

Thanks for your full review wow I am surprised that the salon would charge an extra price too take off the shellac after 2 weeks especially when you would be getting it done again. My salon is charging me $39.00
for the manicue but I will check it out to see if they are going to charge for the polish to be taken off.

Taking them off (see below)....

I actually hated them. I got the OPI Axxium version of these. I chose black, as a neutral, per Disney Trip, just a few weeks ago.

The very day I got it done, I knew I'd hate them, and they'd bother me until I got them off. They weren't BLACK, they were like a "gel black" (gel nails... I guess it makes sense). Another girl was getting hers done, in red at the same time... her's were like a "gel red". Looked like gummy bears - are they red/black/pink? Yes - but in a Jelly like look. I went home and painted them black, on top of the gel with a coat of Seche.

They looked fine then.

BUT - about 4/5 days into my trip, they started peeling. Not all of them, some of them. I absolutely hated them.

Thank God I had a rental car, this trip. I'll fully admit I'm OCD about weird things like that.... nail's being done.

TAKING THEM OFF:So, I hopped in my car, drove to Super Wal Mart and bought: Pure Acetone, cotton balls, and aluminum foil. I also grabbed orange wood sticks, and a nail buffer file, just in case.

I got back to my room and did this. I soaked a cotton ball pretty wet with acetone. I then placed it on my nail, and wrapped a chunk of aluminum foil around the finger tip to keep it in place. I was doing okay until I think the last 2 fingers on my right hand....my poor 15 year old had to assist with the wrapping the foil on it, with those.

I then sat there with my foil finger tips, watched Hannah Montana, for about 15 minutes. I then took each finger tip off, and the gel basically just slipped right off. I used an orange wood stick on the few fingers that still had some stuck on, and just kinda popped off the remaining product.

I then buffed, and just painted them with a polish I had bought at the Outlet Mall (Essie: Bags to Riches - very cool color).

My nails were not ruined, so that was a plus. But I personally - hated them. However: #1: I heard CND's version is better than OPI's. AND #2: I was looking for a solid color, not a jelly like look. Perhaps if you went with a more neutral color, it would'nt be as bad, but again....5 days or so, a few of mine started lifting up and peeling.

My family (sis-in law and nieces) all own a salon, so I have lots of info on all the latest and greatest trends in hair, nails and makeup & get to try lots of them.
Everyone HATES the Axxium brand. It is notorious for poor quality and is not like the CND Shellac product at all. Our salon does not do the Axxium anymore because it is such a crappy product and got such poor reviews. The Shellac brand has gotten great reviews from all of the clients and I had a wonderful experience as well. I only removed mine because of the growth at the cuticle being so much. There was no peeling, cracking or lifting at all.

I loved my shellac manicure so much.... I just ordered my own uv nail light from ebay and ordered some shellac so I can do it myself. I can't wait to get it!!!

I've not had the shellac manicure, but I found a nail product I absolutely love. It's called instant wrap by nail-aid (I ordered it online). I actually got it to help with splitting, peeling nails but was pleasantly surprised to find that it helps my maincure last much longer as well. My polish stays on for at least a week with no chipping whereas tyipcally starts chipping by the 2nd day. I love, love, love this product.

I'm interested to see just how long it would last but I'm so used to doing my nails on a weekly basis, that I've not tried to let it go longer. I'm a creature of habit and Friday is nail day. :) The only downside is that this stuff takes a long time to fully dry.

I love Shellac! I've had it done twice now. This past weekend I thought I would just get a regular mani - and I regret it! The color has chipped and I hated having to be super careful on the drive home etc.

Def. going back to Shellac next weekend!

BTW - Axxium and Shellac - although appear similar - are a totally different product. The Axxium is a GEL manicure and the Shellac is a hybrid. Shellac is so much better for your nails.

I have also noticed how much stronger my nails are with Shellac than right now with regular OPI polish.

WhEre did you buy the shellac from did you get it from a beauty type store?

On the CND website under FAQ's it asks "Can I remove this product myself?". The answer was basically "No".
I was thinking about getting the CND Shellac manicure before my next cruise so I knew my polish would stay on, but I would not keep it up probably.
I actually have very good luck with regular manicure and adding a layer of Nailtiques Formula 2 every day. I am a programmer so I type a lot on the keyboard and a week out- no chips at all. That is a WHOLE lot cheaper than the shellac.

My hair stylist does this and I asked about it. I have very brittle nails and they chip and crack and tear all the time. I am thinking about getting mine done next time I get my hair done. I would just like nicer looking nails and the fake nails make my real nails even worse so I stopped doing those several years ago. Since my nails are so short now I plan to do some neutral color-soft pink or clear if those are options.

Ive been doing the shellac for months and love it and it has helped with the splitting and chipping. I was playing football with my son and his friends the other day, caught a ball badly , and broke 3 nails on my right hand. Cut them all down and redid the shellac with one of their light colors. I think its called Negligee which is almost clear. LOVE shellac, will never go back to regular manicures again.

I tend to have it redone every 10 days instead of 2 weeks as my nails are now growing so fast, I have to keep up with the growth.

You can get the shellac at Amazon or ebay. You need bottom, color and top coat. You can also get the UV lights this way, but I got mine at Sally Beauty Supply. I got the one that explicitly said it cures gel nails.

It's a bit of an investment up front, but saves tons of money in salon visits afterward. It did take some practice. I tend to put on coats that are too thick, then it glumps at the cuticles. I have learned that thin coats are all you need.

Of course they say that! It's super easy to take off with the acetone on the cotton balls and the tin foil squares. You don't need the cotton ball very wet either. The acetone is drying, so after removing the old gel, I apply some solor oil.
