How is it and does it really work good? I'm thinking of getting it done they tell me it will last for 2 weeks do you also think it's safe?

Ive been having it done for about 3 months and absolutely LOVE IT! Ive been on vacation, through cooking, swimming, washing dishes with no gloves, and the manicure stays. I could actually go longer than 2 weeks but the nail growth shows too much.

My nails are in great shape. Strong and growing fast. My favorite part of it all is as soon as the manicurist is done, you are ready to go, completely dry. No messing it up as you pull your keys out of your bag.

You also can't remove it with a regular cotton ball and nail polish remover. Do check with you salon as mine charges an additional fee to remove it.

The only downside , for me, is that the colors are limited but they are supposed to be coming out with more by the end of the year.

Thanks for your full review wow I am surprised that the salon would charge an extra price too take off the shellac after 2 weeks especially when you would be getting it done again. My salon is charging me $39.00
for the manicue but I will check it out to see if they are going to charge for the polish to be taken off.

I have just recently heard of this shelac but don't see the benefit for that price. I have been getting the light concepts gel (you put your fingers under UV light) for a few years and I pay $42 and they last over 4 weeks weeks through vacations, beach, gardening, dishes, etc. And there is no polish so once they are done doing my nails I just grab my keys and go.
What is the benefit of the shelac?

My DD went for her first manicure about 3 weeks ago (I have to admit that I have never had one). I'm not sure if it's what you're talking about or not. She had some type of clear gel put on over her entire nail and the tips are white like a French manicure. So far, it has stayed on. DD is a camp counselor so she's been in the pool just about every day. We also went on vacation for a week (salt water) and not even a chip.

Her pedicure on the other hand was supposed to be some type of anti-chip polish but it only lasted a few days. I think that the pool did her in on that one.

The benefit is that there is no damage to the nail. With gels, tips, etc.. the nail bed must be prepped and drilled, files down, etc. There is also polish additional to that

The shellac is a one step process. Its a regular manicure but its the polish that is hybrid. The gel is IN the polish. A base coat goes one , 2 coats of polish and then the top coat. The lamp is used between each coat. There is no damage to nails at all. Its all in the polish, not in the manicure. With the regular gel nails, the gel is placed on the nails, shaped, buffed, etc. THEN you do the polish. With the shellac , like I said, its just a manicure with special polish.

The polish just doesnt come off, if done correctly. I love it, my nails always look great. Shinny and well maintained. Polish is never chipped. I dont have to worry about carrying around polish, etc to "fix things up " between manicures. There is no "oops" I just messed up a new manicure when I got home.

Not sure all that helps. Others might not like it, I love it and I know more and more people are getting it done at my salon. Now, I do recommend that you go to the Creative Nail Designs website and get a salon that has been approved and trained for it.

Do your nails look fake?

I love fake nails because they stay so nice but I don't like how mine have always screamed FAKE!

Any comments on this?

Does it dry under an UV light?? I've been reading dermatologist reports that the exposure to UV light with the gel nails is causing skin cancers on the backs of womens hands.

Scary

What do they do if you nails have no length? I have solar nails right now, but I would love to not have them use a drill. They last about a month, but I like the shellac idea. Can they help you if you don't have nail length?

They do not look fake because there is nothing fake. Lookes just like a normal manicure dont on your own nails.

This does not add length as there are no tips involved. They do not build up a nail. Your nails are prepped just like a regular manicure. Its just a manicure with a special polish and application.

EEk, I hadnt heard that. After the base coat its 10sec under the light, after the polish, its 2 minutes under the light.

I have never heard of this

For those of you who can't afford this, there is a product I use that works great. It is called Seche Vite, you can buy it at CVS and Sally's. It is a little pricey ($7.99 or so), but I can usually go a week or more with no chips. It dries very quickly.

I am going to see if my local nail salon offers the shellac manicure, but I doubt it. May have to go to the BIG city to see if they have it :rotfl:

Does anyone know of any "regular" nail polish remover (something I can buy at the local store) that takes this stuff off? I don't want to have to go back in and pay for the removal.

I had this done a few months ago (toes) and went to a different place for my next pedicure. They could NOT get the polish off. Had to use one of those sander things to get it off!!!

It did last until nails grew out and I put SOCKS and SHOES on right after the original pedicure was done.. But I won't have it done again.

Try buying pure acetone. Soak a cotton ball with it, put it on the nail and then wrap the nail in aluminum foil. Let it sit for about 5 minutes if not longer. then rub it off and use an orange stick to scrape off what's left.

The other day the salon ran out of the little "nail mittens" they use to remove the shellac and they improvised with this.

Im still getting this done every 2 weeks and my nails have never been stronger or looked better.

It was nicer but not worththe huge price difference to me because my nails still grew out just as fast so it didn't save me anything, every 2 weeks is every 2 weeks, why pay more than necessary?

It was hard to get it off, I think they needed the sander.

That is so weird. My manicurist has never used a sander to take it off. She takes it off easily and it doesnt take that much time or effort.

The beauty of the shellac manicure is not only the long lasting chip free shiny manicure, but the ease of removal and no damage to your nails. Either you got a gel manicure which is NOT the shellac manicure, or your manicurist did not know what they were doing in order to remove it properly. It literally should peel off the nail & any remaining specs can be scraped off with an orangewood stick. I remove mine at home and soak a cotton ball/pad in pure acetone. Wrap the finger with the cotton on it in tin foil & let it sit for about 10 mins. The shellac will literally almost pop off your nail.

There should NEVER (not for application or removal) be any drilling, buffing etc of your actual nails. The only prep for your nail is that they clean it with alcohol or acetone to be sure there is no oil on the nail for it to adhere properly.
