I had surgery on Sept.2, (Thursday) and wanted to know if anyone has had this surgery, how long does the gas stay in your body, a week or longer? Also, how long before staples come out? They told me to take bandages off after I got home, and I kinda freaked when I saw staples, I don't remember them telling me there were staples, maybe I forgot other things too.

Walk a lot. that will help the gas. When is your next appt with the surgeon? Staples will be removed then.
I have never had one, but have assisted with lots and lots.
HOpe you feel better soon.

I had a Laprascopic Appendectomy (just in time) in 2000, Yes, just keep walking as much as you can tolerate and the gas will move around. Ginger Ale may help too, it kind of gets things rumbling.
I didn't have staples I had stiches in my belly button and a couple of other small incisions. DH had Staples and he got them out after 8 days, he said it didn't hurt.

I go to the docs office on Friday the 10th, you think staples are taken out then? Ewwwwww, thats only one week. :faint:

Yep. Staples will come out then. Doesn't hurt. Don't worry.
Plenty of time for the incisions to heal by then!
Good luck to you!

This past Wed (Sept 1st) I had a laparoscopy - fallopian tube clean out, etc. That same day I got outside and walked twice - ea time for 3mins (wow! lol)
anyways Thurs walked a little more - and each day after that. Today Ive walked total of 90mins so far.
My upper belly did finally start feeling less bloated on Sat morn.
Im back in my regular jean shorts but not wearing a belt yet. Think I wont tuck in my work tops this wk. Stomach still feels sore, all bruised.
I have two pinholes w/stitches and a 3rd hole inside my belly button. Dont go back to doc for another 3wks. Not sure if these are suppose to dissolve? fall out?

If you have stitches, they will dissolve. You will never know it :) Great isn't it?
Glad you are feeling better. Walking helps the most.

It took DD a week to get her bowels moving, but they shut down prior to the surgery so it took longer to "wake them up" as the nurses told me!

I had one done on August 6th. I felt like the gas gave me the most pain between my shoulder blades (which I heard later is common) and was the worst on the 2nd and 3rd post-op days. I didn't have staples so I can't help with that. I felt totally back to normal about 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. (Felt mostly normal before that, but the incision in my belly button was still very sore until the 2 1/2 week mark...couldn't button my pants because it pushed on that scar and it was so sore.)

Wow - this might be one time not to have laparoscopic surgery. I had an open emergency appendectomy last December when visiting WDW. I had it at 10 pm on a Wednesday night, left the hospital Thursday before noon. On Friday I went to CP at Epcot and walked the whole way to dinner and then back to the pavillion. Granted I was very tired by the end of the evening, but no pain. (I did not go back to the parks after that.)

My incision was 3" long. I've had 3 other laparoscopic surgeries which is why they didn't want to do another one. The nurse told me before my surgery that my surgeon had been known to do an open appendectomy in less than 15 minutes and that laparscopic took a lot longer.

I flew home on Monday after the surgery and had the stitches removed by my doctor about 10 days after surgery. Except for being tired I really didn't have any problems - and I am very old and have some chronic health problems.

My son had this done in 2001 when he was 4 and he was up running around the next morning- we had hoped it might slow him down for at least a day or so:rolleyes:

I had it last October, no staples, and no gas, the doc got it all out before removing the instruments, I guess. Everyone reacts differently to any type of surgery, walking can help with the bloating gas, but not always, because it is in the body cavity, not in the intestimes. (I know, TMI).

Hope you feel normal quick!
