If so how did it work out for you? We had to send our son,and I feel like my heart has been ripped out.mrsdash

Is that a juvenile detention? If so, I just wanted to offer you some {{{HUGS}}}. I haven't dealt with that, but I can imagine your pain. Sometimes hitting rock bottom brings about positive changes that never would have occurred otherwise.

I"m guessing Division of Juvenile Justice?

Sorry to the OP if that's not the case.

Yes that's what it is. That's just what they call it here. And thanks for the hugs.mrsdash

I haven't had a child in that situation, but I am a mental health worker, so I work with families in this situation all the time. I am sorry your family is having to go through this, I know from an outsider looking in, that it is a horrible situation to be in.

I haven't had to send my child there but my parents had to send my brother when we were young. I remember my family going through a whole range of emotions during that time in my db's life. My mild-mannered, even-keeled dad crying, rageing, yelling, my verbally expressive mom becoming silent, and we kids in turn feeling sad, angry, and honestly, somewhat relieved. A troubled child is incredibly hard on the whole family. My heart goes out to you.

I can't offer you any advice but I just want to wish you the best. Stay strong!!!

My husband works at a school for children who have been expelled from their schools, i'm not sure if that is the same thing. Anyway, from his experience sometimes he sees kids that go in put their time in take advantage of the behavioral classes and learn new skills and move on to better things. It can happand, and sometimes being around other children who might have questionable behavior makes them see the light.
Good luck because something good can come of this.

No Sherri,He has been to the alternative school here twice,Expelled both times. He is in the major lockup at our state Capitol. The police took him in the wee hours yesterday, and I can't even get any info on how he is or anthing until tomorrow. The people who work with the families are off on the weekends. There are several places that they could have taken him. I just want to know where he is and if he is alright. The cops got a little rough with him so I am so worried. Thanks for the support from all of you{hugs}mrsdash

Hopefully, this time he will figure it all out. Good kids can do stupid things. Hang in there!!!

The small town where I grew up had a juvenile detention center called the Naselle Youth Camp. Every year they would send a handful of the kids to our high school for the school year. Now this was a tiny, small town - 7 towns went to our high school and there were about 30 kids in my graduating class. The youth camp kids ranged from kids without homes to murderers. I have only good memories of the boys that came to our school. They had great counselors and were learning to be better people. Of course, I only met the kids who were really trying to do better. I know there were and still are boys in that place who use it as a way to learn even more "fun" criminal acts to try out but all in all many of them will hopefully learn a better way of life and a better way to cope with their emotions. If your son is looking to be a better person and to learn new ways of dealing with what life has to offer, he can really do well in a detention center. I'll be thinking positive thoughts!! :grouphug:

No, but students who have had to go past the alternative school to whatever else there is, and some who have had to be committed to psychiatric institutions.............at their tender ages (4-9 year olds). They are not my children, but I felt a certain responsibility toward them and wondered if I had failed them somehow..........I'm sure only a fraction of what you've been through..................I wish you and your family well.........here's hoping he'll find his way..........

You may not want to share, but I'm guessing since you posted this thread, you might. So, may I ask, what is he being charged with? Why was he in the alternative school? How old is he?
