Has anyone gotten rid of a pool?

Did you regret it?

My above ground pool is cracked and I can't decide whether to replace it or just get rid of it. We don't use it all that often, but I really liked knowing it was there if we wanted it.

I'm torn and really need to decide.

We love our pool, but have small children. I couldn't see getting rid of it. Maybe you can get a pool like we have. It is easy to take care of. I believe it was about $500 at target. It is 18 x 48 and can be taken down at the end of the season.

Thanks for the input. However, if I'm going to replace it, I'm going to replace it with a regular pool. I just can't decide if I want to...

We had an above ground pool ( 24 ft. ) for 15 yrs, we just took it down 2 yrs ago the kids who are now grown got in the pool less and less as they got older, just to busy, and it got expensive to keep it up . The last summer we had it up, they got in it 1 time, and I knew it was time to come down, plus it was getting alot of wear. We are now talking about getting something else . I say if it has alot of wear take it down, if not just drain it and cover it for a year and then see how you feel.

just got rid of ours recently (too much trouble to keep clean and an eyesore as far as i was concerned). we put it on the freecycle website and someone came over, cleaned it out and took it home where they will now enjoy it (not much if any resale market on above ground pools around here).

It's cracked and will fall down on it's own, most likely.

I just can't decide if it's worth it to replace or if I'll regret not replacing it.

You can always go a season without it and see how things go. I think you should probably dis-assemble it or have someone else do it and haul it away.

Going without it defeats the purpose because I would have taken down the deck that goes partially around it and planted grass by the time that year went by. I'm trying to avoid having to start from scratch.

We had our above ground pool for 8 or 9 years and when it was time for a new liner, we sold it and put in a 16 x 32 ft inground pool. Best thing we ever did! My girls were teenagers and had "outgrown" the 4 ft pool and they love the inground. We get much more use out of the inground pool and our pool parties are great!!! We have had it for about 4 years now and still use it all summer.

Ahh, how wonderful it would be to live in a warm climate and have an outdoor (or any!) pool...

Got rid of mine two summers ago (this summer is the second summer). We didn't use it but maybe 5 times the summer before that so I have not really missed it.
It was expensive to run the filter and buy the chemicals and just didn't seem worth it anymore.

I think I've decided not to replace it. Basically, we probably used it less than 15 times over the past 2 summers. I am the one who vacuums and maintains it. I'd be saving myself a bunch of work and money by getting rid of it.

I'd love an inground, but unfortunately, my money tree hasn't bloomed yet, so that will have to wait.

If, down the road, I change my mind, I will be able to get the kind of pool I want, not what I'm stuck with based on the existing deck, put it where I want, etc.

Yup, I think it's coming down....
