Something like this does sound ideal. I hate to talk on the phone. Even when I used to work in a billing department, I always found a way to stay off of the phone.

Um, well it's not technically an at home business, but I score the SATs and ACTs and other standardized tests from my home computer and get to choose my hours. I do it every couple of months and make between 10 and 15 dollars an hour, depending on how many I score in an hour.

check out workplacelikehome.com There are many work at home jobs that are legit, most involve taking inbound or outbound calls from your home. The workathomeagent program is a great stepping stone to other jobs.

I did freelance proofreading for years when kids were small. You need to pay attention to detail. You will also need to be able to use editing marks but you can copy these from the dictionary and use the copy as a reference until they come naturally to you. Check with publishing entities near you. (Besides big publishers there are companies that put out annual reports etc). I made $8-15 and got to read some good new novels etc. before they were published.

Do you need to have a degree in English or journalism to get this kind of work? Thanks in advance for any info you might have! DH has a customer who makes around $3000/month doing editing at home, but he is an English professor with a PhD.

I don't know about ACT scoring requirements, but looks like alikat provided a link for that.
I did see something on the SAT site awhile back looking for scorers. They wanted people who are currently teaching.

"SAT Writing essays are scored by experienced high school teachers and college faculty members who primarily teach English, composition, or language arts courses, or who teach a course in another subject that requires a substantial amount of writing."
