I AM THINKING OF BOOKING MY HOLIDAY WITH FLORIDA'R'US AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE FLIGHT WOULD BE WITH UNITED AIRLINES WITH A 90 MINUTE STOPOVER IN WASHINGTON.
HAS ANYONE OUT THERE EVER FLOWN WITH THEM OR KNOW MUCH ABOUT THEM?
I HAVE LOOKED ON THEIR WEBSITE BUT COULDN'T FIND MUCH OUT ABOUT THEM FLYING HEATHROW/ORLANDO.
WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS IF IT'S A COMFORTABLE FLIGHT WITH DECENT LEG ROOM.
HOPE SOMONE CAN ENLIGHTEN ME

We have flown with United a couple of times, and are flying with them again next trip, where we have a 2 hour stop in Chicago.

I enjoyed the flight, boeing 777, seat back TV's, good movies, food was ok, free drinks, and the crew were very nice and helpful. The legroom was ok too, especially if you are lucky enough to get a seat in economy plus, which gives a few extra inches leg room than standard economy.

Hi Lin

We flew with them in October to Orlando via Washington. The stop over wasn't a problem with plenty of time to spare on the way out. On the way back we were off one plane and straight back on the other.

The only problem's we had were on the way back, not being able to be seated together on the way from Orlando to Washington and from Wahington to Heathrow we (two of us) were seated in the middle five between people and found there not to be much space at all.

Food was good on the way out and the only problem on the way back was they didn't have my vegetarian meal that I had ordered (have since received a $50.00 money off voucher to use with them for this inconvenience.

I wouldn't have a problem flying with them again as the flights are so cheap compared to others :D

Flew with them two years ago (just after Sept 11th) and have no major complaints - food was quite good although choice of TV/films was a bit disappointing on the way back.

Chicago airport is far nicer than Washington with a lot more to keep you occupied, but if you are on the via Washington flight it does get to Orlando earlier and leave later, so it's not too bad!

Would agree with Kaylee about avoiding the middle seats if possible - I think this is a problem on many Boeing 777's, not just United's, but I haven't been on enough of them to check.

However, as the seat layout is 2-5-2, asking for a window seat (even if you don't really want one) will guarantee you aviod the middle AND one of you gets an aisle seat. Just asking for an aisle seat, they'll normally try and give you the middle aisle ones first.

Hi,

However currently United Airlines are in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy ( ie they are still flying) and are trying to cut costs by negotiating with unions( to reduce the wage bill ) and other suppliers.

It is possible that within the next few weeks United, if unable to reduce costs sufficently could file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy ( ie stop flying altogether). There are also rumors that American Ailrines will file for Chapter 11 ( will continue flying)

While if this happened after you booked through your travel agent you would probably be reaccomodated on another carrier, it might make more sense to book on another carrier.

There is a website for frequent flyers that wil keep you informed of any changes and can answer any questions on United ( www.flyertalk.com)

The United board is;

and scroll down to United.

We were worried about this too so we have booked with Virgin this year.

Is 90 mins really enough time to clear customs/immigration and check in for an international flight ? Is this why you end up seperated ??

We were fine on the way out they booked our seats for Washingtom to Orlando in London. They did the same in Orlando on the way back.

we did this same route with UA in October, and have booked again for our honeymoon in May (lets hope no bankruptcy!!!)

We had no problems at all, were upgraded on the flight out which was wonderful! DD and I had never done a stopover flight before and were amazed how easy it all was. 90 minutes was plenty of time.:)

Thanks for the reassurance, its highly likely we're going to be changing planes enroute this time :D
