We are booked for two weeks at POR 17th sep - 1st October. Just looking at flight options.

Cheapest at the moment is monarch from Manchester (4.5 hour drive so a bit inconvenient) to Sanford (again, not ideal as no magic express).

Coming in at £2147 for 4 of us. We have flown VA before and loved it but they are £550 more. How is monarch compared to VA?

Any suggestions for cheaper flights? I want to wait it out coz thomson have had some amazing late offers but not sure my nerves will hold!!

We flew monarch last year. The food was nice and the service was very friendly. There was no seat back entertainment just a few tv screens here and there; however I brought my iPad like most people so it didn't bother me. I think monarch are due to change their aircraft at some point. The thing is we saved lots of money by flying monarch and paying for a transfer. It all comes down to how much money you can save. If it's a big difference it just can't be ignored! Sanford was not really that far and the queue for immigration was small.

I'm researching prices in advance for next year already. Going in October.

So far the best prices I've gotten are by flying into New York and then home from Orlando with Virgin. And getting a one way NY-MCO flight with United or JetBlue.

We'd arrive in NY at around 7pm so would get an airport hotel and then get an early morning flight down to Orlando the next day. Flight is only 2.5 hours. Means you have the whole day once you get there and don't need to worry about MCO immigration.

Even with the NY hotel factored in it's coming in at over £300 cheaper and that's before the Miles+Money fares are taken into account.

We flew with Monarch to Orlando for the first time in July. We had flown Virgin for our previous 3 trips. We upgraded to premium as that gave seatback TVs, drinks and larger luggage allowance. The seatback TVs weren't very good and kept freezing and you couldn't select films the way you could with Virgin. Saying that if given a chance to get direct flights I would use again. Sanford was less busy and quicker to get through immigration and baggage collection than Orlando.
