Hey all....
I need some suggestions on a nice place to stay with the family. Me, DH, DS (14) and DD (13). We don't want to spend a ton of money, but do not want a dump either. Would like to stay on the beach, and need an awesome pool. Any thoughts???

we stayed at compass cove last year and had a great time! rates were not bad and the pools were excellent!! the kids had a blast!

We also stayed at Compass Cove last year. Had a water front condo which was great. Kids loved the beach and the pools at night. The only thing I didn't like was the fireworks some would set off at night. Some people while we were there were a wee bit dangerous with them.

No help here, for we stay in a friend's condo in Surfside Beach, but it's a blast there! Hope you find a nice place!

Thanks... I'll check out Compass Cove on Expedia.

I don't know where you should stay, but I think the best restaurant is the Sea Captain's House. It is absolutely perfectly cooked food and a beautiful little restaurant, too. We actually went there twice on a weekend trip!

We held a family reunion at The Long Bay Resort because it was down the northern residential end of the beach and it's variety of room types to choose from. I'd stay there again!

We are going to Myrtle Beach Saturday!!!!!!!!!:sunny:

I don't have to many suggestions for a good pool, the places we stay are just your average motels w/ average pools.

I do have another restaurant suggestion. We love the Chesapeake House. It's on 17, going towards North Myrtle. Great food and it overlooks a lake w/ aligators! Another tip if you go, they also have wonderful sweet rolls. We always get some to take home for breakfast.

Have a good trip!

We just got back from a week vacation there! We camp every year but one year we stayed at the Crown Reef. It is a high-rise, beach front hotel in the heart of downtown. Our room was a mini suite - walked in the door there was the bedroom, small hall had a refrigerator, stove, sink and microwave on one side with the bathroom to the other side then on the beach side was a room with a table and couch that pulled out into a bed. It was a little worn but really clean.
It has indoor pools that you swim under the glass enclosure and you are in the outdoor pool. There is also a lazy river. At night with the lights on the hotel it looks like the building is purple. Good luck and have fun!

We've been three times in the last five years and always stay at the Beachcove Resort. 5 pools, a lazy river and a beautiful beach. We reserve a two bedroom oceanfront unit.

While there, make sure to visit Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing for great food and shopping!

Have a wonderful trip!

A few years ago I came from california to maryland and went down the coast with my Aunt and Unlce and Mother. We spend a night in Myrtle Beach. I booked us a suite at the Patricia Grand Resort. It had one bedroom with two beds, bathroom a full kitchen, diningroom and living room with murphy bed. I think we paid $110. That may be to high for you but they had smaller less expensive rooms too. The hotels has exterior corridors and was not quite as nice as I expexted but it was roomy, clean and comfortable, had a awesome view of the ocean and had an outdoor and indoor pool and a small float creek. Keyword being small, but fun for kids.

another vote for Crown Reef. They have a great lazy river. :D The Sheraton is also nice.

Patricia Grand was a bit run down last time we stayed there.

We stayed at the Patricia Grand once and still get its mailings. I can't think of what it's called now, but it has a new name. The layout was like the one described by Ellen aka Snow White.

We stayed at landmark they have a large indoor pool . lazy river one indoor one outdoor, several other pools and hot tubs..
type landmark myrtle beach and you can see pics on web site..

you guys have been most helpful, as usual. I am torn between the Beach Cove and the Crown Reef.

Also stayed at the Sea Watch in a 2 bedroom and really liked it. It was just north of the commercialized area.

My DH aunt lives in North Myrtle Beach and she works at the Beach Cove Hotel. We are going in August. I love it there as well. It has all kinds of places to shop and eat, and tons of mini golf. My favorite mini golf place is Mt. Atlanticus by the pavilion. This time when we go we are just going to take it easy and hang out at the hotel. She lives about 5 blocks away from Beach Cove and you can literally take the golf cart there from where she lives. We stayed at Beach Cove once and I love it. Especially waking up real early and seeing the beach really smooth looking and reading the special messages people wrote for their family in the sand. I hope you have a great time.

We haven't been in a couple of years but we used to stay at the Sea Mist Resort which is a great place for families with an on site water park.

A good place to eat in Myrtle Beach is Benjamins Calabash restaurant, we love the big one up in North Myrtle Beach...:sunny:
