Has anyone ever tried bringing their own ice into the parks?

I don't really agree but my dad is dead set on trying this out. To save a little money we usually bring in additional beverages like soda cans and Gatorade when we go to parks and while there we ask for small cups of ice for our warm drinks.

But this time my dad is considering trying to bring in his own ice to avoid having to line up in the long lines to ask for ice. He's thinking about a small insulated bag or small cooler (the 6-can size) - or filling up large empty 32 oz size Gatorade bottles with ice.

Just wondering if anyone has tried this, or has any "ice" or cooler related information - I think I once read that the small 6-soda can size coolers are allowed in the park(s)?

If you freeze a gatorade/water bottle (or two)and keep it in with your other drinks in the cooler, you should be good to go.

Well, works for us in off season, but if you are going in summertime it may not work as well.

The freezing of bottles, wither water or gatorade, plus small juice boxes or capri suns work well in the summer also. Just remember that if you choose to place your cooler in the lockers, and it leaks, maintenance will open the locker and remove your items. We have seen several times that the cooler will leak onto the floor and to avoid accidents they just open the locker and take the items. Good luck!

When we were at DL last week, I was talking to someone behind us in line who had their water bottles wrapped in aluminum foil. She said that if you get it really cold and then wrap it with a paper towel and then aluminum foil, it will stay cold for much of the day. They had been at the park most of the day and it was after 5 p.m. and their drinks were still cold. She said that's what they always do.

I just got back from a short trip June 18-21. I froze bottles of water/juice boxes and kept them in a cooler for the drive down, then put in hotel fridge and freezer. They stayed pretty well frozen - I brought enough for 2 a day I also took into the parks a huge supply of snacks - like a reusable grocery bag size 1/2 full. Only once did security even ask about it - no one else ever did. I had a stroller, so that made it easy to carry all that stuff - but certainly you can carry in a frozen bottle. I never would have even thought to wait in line just for ice - I'd be buying my whole meal if I was waiting in line! I suppose you could also just scoop in and grab some from a street vendor if you're not too picky No waiting there!

Your dad and I are just alike! I LOVE having ice on hand and hate standing in lines to ask for a cup of ice only to get about 1 cup half full So then I started asking for 3 cups of ice and I got weird looks...ANYWAY, I have brought a smaller ice chest and packed it full of ice...got in just fine without any question DAD...ENJOY YOUR ICE

we always freeze bottled water to bring in, too. we've done this in summer and everything stays nice and cold until at least late afternoon.

last year we went in september, it was mid to high 90's both days we were in the parks. we had brought frozen water bottles (we have 4 kids so we always bring in tons of our own water), this time in an insulated bag, and they didn't melt fast enough, lol! they were staying frozen, despite the heat, and we had to leave a couple out for a while to let them melt a bit so we could drink them, lol!

I completely understand the ice issue...I'm an ice person myself but I once asked a street vendor if I could have some of their ice and they said no because it is made of recycled water. Just a heads up!

I put drinks and ice in a small soft sided cooler and put it in the bottom of the stroller. It melted pretty quickly and by lunch I had to dump it out.

Isn't hopping in a quick line for a cup of ice easier than hauling a cooler of ice around all day long? Just thinking about how I like to carry as little as possible. I couldn't imagine carrying ice around. - ugh! -
