Has anyone ever "traded" points?

I'm a new member - actually waiting for the paper work to be processed. We will have 150 points at SSR with a Sept. 05 use year. As soon as we close that contract, we are going to add-on 120 more points & get the 100 point incentive.

What I am wanting to do is be able to make a trip this June. Has there ever been a scenario where members "trade" points? (i.e. my Sept.05 points that could be used until Aug.31, 06 for points from another member's account that could be used for a June 05 reservation.)

Does that make sense?

I know I could rent points & still get a stay in, but I am exploring our options. We have AP's & a DDE membership that I would love to get another use out of before expiration. Then we will probably skip WDW next summer (06) and go somewhere else. Back to WDW for a big family blowout for dd's graduation in 07.

I'd appreciate any input from all of you DVC experts!

If your building at SSR will be open by June, you can borrow your Sep, 05 points and make the reservation yourself right now.

You can't use your points to make a reservation for dates prior to the completion date for your building. If your building will not be complete by June, you will have to try to find someone to make a reservation for you (either by trading points - yes it has been done - or renting).

Your paperwork should describe the completion date for your purchase, but if you are unsure, your guide or MS can help.

I got my paperwork finally last night (chased the FedEx package down myself!) and my completion date for my building is August 2, 2005.

So, I could "trade" reservations or points with someone, as long as my points would be used by them after Aug. 2? Then I could use their points for a June trip?

Just trying to clarify before I put a listing on the Rent/Trade board or call MS with all of my "newbie" confusion.

Yes, that should work- but I'd still call and verify the date you can make your own reservations with your guide. You should be able to have a reservation for any date after your building is open, even if you need to borrow your September Use Year points. For any date after September 1, you won't need to borrow- and I'd sure consider that if you are renting or trading- since borrowed points would be lost if something went awry with the reservation.

In this case, I'd suggest just renting from another member for the dates you want and then just rent you own points to someone else for dates after September 1. I think, at this point, you may experience difficulty finding someone to "trade" points with you with the timetable you have.
