We are looking to taking a ski vacation out west, and was wondering if anyone has ever traded points for any of the Beaver Creek resorts?

I would appreciate any and all information about the area, resort, and how the skiing is.

Thanks

Belle and Rella, I haven't used points to stay at Beaver Creek but have paid to stay there. It is a gorgeous area- designed like a swiss village. Very quaint and upscale for the most part. Skiing is great and you have easy access to Vail as well as skiing village to village to Bachelor Gulch or Arrowhead I believe. There's a skating rink in the center of the village and an alpine horn blower - lots of atmosphere. The village is smaller than Vail or Aspen- pretty family oriented. I think it looks like what Disney would build if they designed a ski resort.

I have no direct information but here's what I could find out. St. James Place is a great resort and highly rated. Likewise for Poste Montane and Park Plaza. I couldn't put Falcon Point in quite the same level from what I could see.

Okay, I'm biased, but having skiied both I'd go to Utah over Colorado. The Stein Erikson at Deer Valley is a five star resort right on the slope with a world renowned spa and is available to trade out from DVC.

Greatest snow on earth, baby! :teeth:

Kem330,

If I may where did you stay and how long ago were you there?

Dean,

Thank you for the information it is exactly what I thought, can I ask where did you find your information?

WDWguru,

Someday I would love to try out Deer Valley or Park City, but I have always had my heart set on skiing at Beaver Creek. By the way I wished that we had the skiing options here in Michigan that you have being in Salt Lake City.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

We're going out the day after Xmas for 3 nights at Keystone and 3 nights in Avon. In Avon, we're staying at Sheraton's Mounatin Vista which looks fairly nice. If intersted in a review e-mail me and I'll let you know when I get back how it was (not sure if it is on the exchange list.) I had managed to get a phenomenal rate at the Sheraton for this trip back in June (it was an Expedia meistake which is being honored.) Recently, there was an auction on eBay for 3 nights in a 3BR at the new Ritz Carlton residences (you choose the dates). It came to about $500/ night (below average for Beaver.)

P.S. If you are a skier rather than a boarder, reset your heart on Deer Valley and get there before they start allowing boarders. I have stayed at the Stein--nice but not worth the points DVC wants. I'd trade for Marriott's Summitt Watch in Park City.

We skied out at Beaver Creek about 5 years ago and stayed in a condo called Kiva- it's across the upper bridge from the Hyatt on the east- a little walk to the lift but you can ski in. Quite pricey even then but it was a very large nicely decorated unit. The rink and the village to village wasn't quite open then. We were back there last summer and saw all the new additions -they had the rink going even then and the swiss musicians. It is equally fun in summer. That time we golfed instead of skiing- beautiful course. St James in in an excellent location in the heart of the village, I have checked out the public area but not the units - it is very highly rated as Dean says. You really can't go wrong there. Beaver Creek is very expensive area- but so are most ski areas. Avon is a nice town but it is not on the mountain, so you lose the convenience factor, but save on $$. I guess it depends what you're looking for. It is not as developped as Vail- much smaller village- and not at all like Aspen. My son is a more aggressive skier and I think he was very satisfied- they have a web site that might give you more info.

Good point about the boarding... hadn't thought of that (we ski). Alta over in the Cottonwood Canyons is a fantastic and much more affordable area (lots of locals) that doesn't allow boarders. You could stay in either Salt Lake or Park City and get there in about 30 minutes by car (the bus system also serves the ski areas). I personally don't mind them that much, but it's nice to have the option of a few places without them. If you are into boarding, definitely go to Park City Mountain Resort. (It's right near Deer Valley so you could go there even if you stay at the Stein.) That's where the halfpipe is they used for the Olympics. In fact, there's a big Red Hot Chili Peppers concert followed by a big competition there this weekend that's going to be showing on NBC on the 21st.

I have traded with several Marriott resorts. I always receive great point value exchanges with them. The Marriott at Breckenridge is a ski-in ski-out resort (not exactly plush though). I stayed 7 nights in a studio with a full kitchen for 112 points last March!

The info is from Timeshare Users Group (TUG) and Timesharing Today . TUG has extensive BBS, reviews and ratings. TST has much more detailed ratings but no indidual reviews. TUG is $15 for year one and $10 per year for renewals with a free add for each year ($10 value). TST has a written and online site but is somewhat more expensive. TUG is worth it for anyone with any interest in other timeshare. TST requires an additional amount of commitment to timeshares in general that most DVC members would not have.
